Tucker Budzyn, the golden retriever who became an internet sensation through his videos and photos, has died at the age of eight after complications from cancer. His owner, Courtney Budzyn, announced his death in an emotional video on Saturday, September 5, revealing that Tucker passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 2.
Courtney had only announced Tucker’s lymphoma diagnosis on August 30 and initially said he was responding well to treatment. She later revealed that the cancer had also affected his intestines, leading to an infection that caused his condition to deteriorate rapidly.
Courtney Budzyn Announces Tucker’s Death
Courtney explained that Tucker had appeared to be doing well after beginning cancer treatment and had even shown signs of partial remission. However, the treatment left a hole where the cancer had been in his intestine, allowing an infection to develop. The infection appeared suddenly, and Courtney rushed Tucker to the veterinarian. Despite receiving antibiotics and fluids, his condition continued to worsen.
“I thought that was the last sad video I was gonna make, but it’s not … Tucker passed away Wednesday, unexpectedly.”
Courtney became emotional while describing her final efforts to save Tucker and said she wanted his fans to know that she had done everything she could. She eventually had to decide to let him go after his temperature continued to rise without responding to treatment. Courtney also spoke about the bond she shared with Tucker and how deeply his death has affected her.
“There’s nothing in this world that I wouldn’t have done for him. He was literally part of me. He was part of my soul. It feels like I lost a body part.”
She told Tucker’s followers that she knew many of them were grieving alongside her.
“I’m so sorry, guys. I know he was yours, too.”
Courtney ended her emotional message by saying that Tucker had saved her life and that she now had to find a way to continue moving forward.
“I don’t know how to live, but I have to. He didn’t lie by my side for all those years just for me to give up.”
Tucker had built a huge following across social media after Courtney began sharing his life online following his adoption in 2018. His videos and photos turned him into one of the most recognizable golden retrievers on the internet.
