Influencer Veronica Perasso has revealed she once risked her life by receiving illegal silicone injections at a friend’s home because she could not afford another cosmetic procedure.
Perasso, a model and content creator with nearly five million Instagram followers, discussed the experience in an Instagram video posted on August 8, giving viewers a full account of her cosmetic procedures.
Her cosmetic surgery journey began with breast augmentation in 2018, followed by a Brazilian butt lift in 2019. Perasso initially liked the results of the BBL, but said her appearance began changing again around three months later.
In a previous interview with TMZ, she said the attention she received after the surgery contributed to body dysmorphia and left her chasing the “dopamine rush” of further changes.
Perasso calls silicone injections her worst procedure
After becoming unhappy with the results of her BBL, Perasso turned to silicone injections that she described as “super cheap.” According to People, the injections were administered by an unlicensed woman.
“In that moment, I didn’t care,” Perasso said. “I didn’t have the money, and I was willing to risk my life for those reasons.”
The procedure did not take place in a clinic. Instead, Perasso said it was performed inside a friend’s home after she was given an unspecified pill.
“A lady came, gave me a pill, put me to sleep basically, and injected me with silicone in the back,” she recalled, calling the injections “the worst thing I had done.”
Perasso said she considers herself “very, very grateful” that she did not experience major complications. She acknowledged that others have become seriously ill, lost sensation in their legs or developed chronic pain after undergoing similar procedures.
The FDA has warned that injectable silicone is not approved for body contouring. Potential complications include scarring, tissue death, permanent disfigurement, infections, strokes and death. Problems can also emerge weeks, months or years after the injection.
Looking back, Perasso said her procedures caused “so much body dysmorphia.” She is now presenting her experience as a warning to people who may be heading down the same plastic-surgery “rabbit hole.”
“I’m not sharing this to judge anyone’s choices,” she wrote. “I’m sharing it because I wish I had heard more honest conversations like this when I was younger.”
