A LEGO fan builds an impressive version of Gyarados from Pokemon, complete with Pokemon TCG card and stand, and it was posted for voting as an official LEGO Ideas set. LEGO recently added a plethora of new sets to the official store on August 1, and even more are on the way in the coming months. For example, the biggest LEGO set ever is coming on November 1, 2026, and it’s going to be a LEGO Architecture replica of the Sagrada Familia Basilica, with a whopping 12,060 pieces for an eye-watering $799.99.
As for the Pokemon collaboration, LEGO just released a wave of new products. Among the new LEGO Pokemon sets now available are multiple Smart Play sets dedicated to iconic critters from Kanto, as well as regular sets for Pokemon the caliber of Rayquaza and Arcanine. Even more Pokemon sets will presumably be released between the next few months and next year, and in around six months, LEGO will announce the winner of a special LEGO Ideas competition for Pokemon TCG. The sets in the contest are five, including an impressive Gyarados build.
LEGO Fan Builds Jaw-Dropping Gyarados For Pokemon TCG Challenge, And It Could Win
A few months ago, a LEGO fan shared their custom Gyarados build for the LEGO Ideas Pokemon TCG challenge under the name Fit-Tumbleweed3793, and it ended up being chosen for the voting part of the contest. The voting has since ended, with the contestants being a LEGO Pokemon TCG build for Arceus, Joltik, Rowlet, Mew, and Gyarados. The results will be announced in around six months, which comes close to Pokemon Day 2027. If this fan-made LEGO Gyarados set gets enough votes, it will be made into an official LEGO Ideas set. This is partly a 2D build and partly 3D, with the head of the Pokemon coming out of the card alongside its neck and some waves on the side.

The official Pokemon TCG challenge rules state that the results will be announced no later than February 4, 2027. The winner will have their build turned into an official set, and the others will receive some LEGO sets as a reward, including the LEGO Pokemon Eevee set, the Pikachu and Poke Ball set, the Minifigure Vending Machine set, the Love Birds set, and the Orange Cat set. Interestingly, the non-Pokemon LEGO sets are all LEGO Ideas sets. The finalist Gyarados build is made of 1,262 pieces, and it genuinely feels like a Pokemon TCG card coming alive.
Among the newly released sets for August 1 is one of the coolest LEGO Pokemon sets so far, which is a Rayquaza build themed around the Pokemon’s iconic appearance in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire‘s Delta Episode, though it doesn’t come with an alternate Mega Rayquaza build. Looking at the set, the Pokemon’s vertical design and little movement almost make it seem like an early attempt at a Pokemon TCG build.
For those who are interested in the trading card game, Pokemon TCG is officially launching the 30th Anniversary set soon, on September 16. The set is likely going to be one of the biggest releases for the franchise this year, and it’s sparking discussions about scalping and availability. The Pokemon Company and Nintendo issued a statement about Pokemon TCG scalping and ways to battle it, but fans will have to wait and see if this will affect the 30th Anniversary set.
