Optical Camo was added to Ghost Recon Breakpoint as part of the Operation Motherland update. To get it, players need to play Operation Motherland’s Conquest mode and progress enough through the storyline until they reach their first major mission. Unlocking the Optical Camo in Breakpoint should take about half an hour or so, depending on how quickly players can sabotage the Bodarks’ operation and storm one of their bases in southern Auroa.
Where to Find the Optical Camo in Ghost Recon Breakpoint
First, you’ll need to swap over to Conquest mode by opening your map and selecting the button on the lower-right side of your screen. You can freely swap between the main campaign and Conquest at any time, and your progress between the two modes will be tracked and saved separately, which means you won’t have to worry about losing any progress.
Once you start Conquest mode, complete the prologue, then complete at least two Destabilization missions against Bodark. After finishing those missions, you’ll get another mission that will send you to an enemy outpost in Eternity. Head to the marked objective, and once you reach the facility, look for a tech crate on the first floor of the main building. Open it to get the Optical Camo device.
How to Use Optical Camo in Ghost Recon Breakpoint
After getting the Optical Camo device, you can press the U key/D-Pad Left to activate it. The Optical Camo’s battery will slowly drain for as long as it’s active, and it’ll drain even faster if you’re moving (and even more so if you’re performing more extreme actions like sprinting, vaulting, or shooting).
By default, Optical Camo will only recharge during daytime, so you’ll want to use it sparingly during night raids. Later on, you can purchase an upgrade that lets your Optical Camo device recharge even during nighttime.
Without any upgrades, the Optical Camo is best used the same way as the Prone Camo feature. If you’re at risk of getting seen (such as when you’re lining up a sniper rifle shot), go invisible, then stay perfectly still until enemies pass you.
How to Upgrade Optical Camo
To upgrade your Optical Camo, you need to collect Camo Points, which you can collect by opening crates throughout Auroa. Check points of interest on your map to see if they have Camo Point crates inside them, and if they do, you can easily find where they are by using your drone and looking for a circular symbol somewhere on the map.
The best places to get tons of Camo Points at once are Behemoth Defense Areas. These locations have 1000 Camo Points up for grabs, and while they are always guarded by a Behemoth drone the first time you visit them, you don’t have to destroy them to get the Camo Points. Just sneak past the Behemoth, grab the Camo Points from the crate inside the defense area, then fast back to the safety of the nearest Bivouac.
You can find the various Optical Camo upgrades by going to the Loadout screen. The cloak will fizzle out very quickly if you anything except stand perfectly still, so make sure to upgrade it as often as you can.
