Help The Hive or Refuse? (Hive and Seek) in Blood of Dawnwalker

The Hive and Seek quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker will lead Coen and Lacra into a cave in search of Isbrand, where they’ll meet the strange goblins who’ll eventually need them to help them with Chonk. Players can take this up in Uriashi Village after completing the Song of the Mountain quest. This guide will walk you through the Hive and Seek quest and explore all outcomes of the “Help The Hive” choice in Blood of Dawnwalker.

How to Start the Hive and Seek Quest in Blood of Dawnwalker

Hive and Seek Quest Start Blood of Dawnwalker

To start the Hive and Seek quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker, players will need to first enter the Uriashi Village during the Song of the Mountain quest, which is also a prerequisite to unlocking this quest. Lacra will be waiting at the edge of the cliff in Uriashi Village, and you can talk to her to select the “Time to go” dialog to start the quest.

Players will need to follow the snowy trail and descend the cliff using the Clawride ability. Keep following Lacra till you arrive at the entrance to the cave, which she’ll conveniently blow open. The path inside the cave is pretty linear, so you’ll have no trouble navigating to the next quest marker.

The only place where navigation could get a bit tricky is when Coen and Lacra enter a large cavern. Here, you’ll need to use the Planeshift ability on the wall to the right of the cave, and use it to reach the far-off ledge.

After that, use Planeshift again to grab onto the wall, followed by the Clawride ability to descend to the lower platform. Keep following the path until you eventually enter a cutscene where Coen will need to make an important choice.

Should You Help The Hive or Refuse Them? (Hive and Seek)

Coen and Lacra will be confronted by The Hive, a mysterious group of goblins, offering them guidance throughout the cave and leading them to Isbrand. In exchange, they’ll need to take down a mysterious monster named “Chonk.”

At this point in the Hive and Seek quest, players will need to decide whether to help The Hive or refuse them in Blood of Dawnwalker.

Hive and Seek Quest Help Choice Blood of Dawnwalker

If you want to help The Hive during the Hive and Seek quest, select the following lines of dialog.

  • You will show us where Isbrand is?
  • We can help.
  • Could be stupid to not get help.

Once you agree to help The Hive, Coen and Lacra will be escorted to Isbrand’s chamber by Kobold. The goblin will guide players through a secret tunnel and lead them to the chamber where Isbrand is held captive. Dropping into the chamber will begin a combat encounter against regular goblins and the Chonk, the Insatiable mini-boss.

This choice won’t have any impact on Coen’s standing with Lacra, nor on the ending of the quest.

What Happens if You Refuse to Help The Hive?

If you want to help The Hive during the Hive and Seek quest, select the following lines of dialog.

  • We’re fine on our own, as you can see.
  • This is a trap.
  • I stand by what I said, no deal.

Refusing to help The Hive won’t change the mission. The only difference is that players will need to take a different, somewhat longer path towards Isbrand’s chamber, without the help of Kobold.

After the interaction, use the Clawride ability to descend the chasm in front of you. Once you’re down, head inside the straw tunnel I’ve marked in the image above.

This will lead Coen and Lacra into a chamber with hostile goblins called “Wrongs.” You’ll need to take them out and then follow the path to the right of the chamber.

Head through the tight cavern, and you’ll enter a more open area with a large metallic dial on the ground. Here, you’ll need to fight a few more goblins before taking a straight path into the chamber where you’ll find Isbrand in Blood of Dawnwalker Hive and Seek quest.

Should You Fight The Hive or Remain Peaceful?

Hive and Seek Quest Final Choice Blood of Dawnwalker

Once you’ve entered Isbrand’s chamber and defeated all the enemies, including Chonk the Insatiable boss, The Hive goblins will start gathering in the shadows, planning to consume Isbrand, Coen, and Lacra. This will happen regardless of whether you help them or not.

Here, players will have a choice to either straight up antagonize and fight The Hive or calm them down to avoid confrontation.

What Happens if You Antagonize the Hive?

Choosing the dialog choice “One step, and you’re just as dead,” will start another combat encounter with over 15 Hive goblins. While they’re fickle, the sheer number of them can put many players in a bind, especially if they’re out of healing potions.

This choice does not impact the overarching story. However, Lacra will comment on how this conflict could have been avoided, hinting at a slight negative impact on Coen’s standing with her romantically.

How to Avoid Fighting the Hive (Recommended)

Thankfully, players also have an option to avoid fighting The Hive goblins at the end of the Hive and Seek quest in Blood of Dawnwalker. All you need to do is select the following dialog options.

  • Calm down, and think for a moment.
  • You can’t all eat at once.
  • You will lose your bond if you eat it.

Selecting the dialog choices above will encourage The Hive goblins to leave Isbrand’s chamber. This will allow players to complete the Hive and Seek quest without any further combat encounters.

Hive and Seek Quest Isbrand's Plate Armor Blood of Dawnwalker

After you complete all the interactions and combat encounters, make sure to loot the chest to the right of chained-up Isbrand to get Isbrand’s Plate legendary armor in The Blood of Dawnwalker. It’s one of the best-in-slot armor pieces for vampire builds, and it can be easily missed if you simply interact with Isbrand after the combat encounters without looting the chest.
