Free GTA 6 t-shirts given away at Tokyo Game Show 2026 are already being flipped online for over $200.
The shirts were handed to attendees who sat through an immersive screening of the Netflix GTA 6 extended look at the PlayStation booth, complete with haptics and surround sound.
The booth closed after 10 minutes
Demand was immediate, with footage from the show floor showing a crush of people trying to get in and the booth reportedly shutting its doors after just 10 minutes because of the size of the crowd.
GTA wasn’t the only booth struggling to cope. Red Bull was forced to halt distribution of its light-up metal tumblers entirely after overcrowding became dangerous, only resuming later in the day.
That’s the part causing concern. TGS has dealt with this before, with Metal Gear Solid shirts going the same way in previous years, but the scramble is now making the show genuinely unsafe rather than just chaotic.
Shirts are selling for more than the game
Shirts started appearing on Japanese auction site Mercari before the public days had even begun, listed by business attendees for over 12,000 yen, roughly $76, according to Kotaku.
Prices have climbed well past that since, and buyers are paying them. Dexerto has verified multiple active and sold listings across eBay, with one Osaka-based reseller having already shifted two shirts at $219.99 each, free shipping and import fees included.
Promo cards for the Palworld and Final Fantasy trading card games have hit resale listings too, alongside a new issue of Game Freak’s doujin magazine.
It’s a familiar problem for GTA 6 specifically. Fans were already overpaying eBay scalpers for pre-orders back in June, despite the game being digital-only with no stock shortage at all.
