A dog from California has gone viral after helping police catch a home intruder by repeatedly giving him toys and expecting the thief to play.
There are a lot of people out there who get dogs just so they’ve got a companion, a furry extension of the family. Others, however, add dogs to their home for protection – expecting them to deal with any would-be home invaders.
Well, over in San Diego, a Golden Retriever called Nash has gone viral after deciding to try to be friends with a man who broke into his family’s home.
As per NBC 7 in San Diego, Nash tried to play fetch with the man, who didn’t want to oblige and, instead, tried to make himself at home after hopping their fence and climbing up a ladder to the second story.
Nash the dog isn’t an amazing security guard
Nash’s owner, Dante Rowley, was watching everything unfold using security cameras as his family waited to board a flight back to San Diego.
Police were eventually alerted to the home invasion, as the man decided he didn’t want to play with the dog, and tried to scarper out of a window. He was eventually caught by officers in the backyard, who were also instructed to play by Nash once they got inside the house.
“Nash is not the greatest guard dog. We thought he was going to bark at people and he did the exact opposite,” Rowley told NBC 7.
As per the outlet, the man was charged with burglary and also had outstanding charges stemming from unrelated incidents. He has not yet been named by police.
Nash, on the other hand, has become a social media hit, with many viewers saying their dog would have acted in a similar way.
“Goldens gonna golden,” one commented. “Nash only knows how to kill ‘em with kindness,” another added. “So, no leg humping on the intruder? He got off lightly,” another joked.
