Naruto Uzumaki is one of the strongest ninjas to exist in the Naruto world, and he accomplished such a high level of strength by mastering the powers of his Tailed Beast, Kurama. The power of Naruto’s Tailed Beast was made clear to us in the very first chapter of the series, which was released on September 21, 1999, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 43.
Initially, Kurama’s only role was to break free from the prison that was Naruto. But eventually, these two formed an unbreakable bond, and Naruto utilized Kurama’s strength to the absolute maximum. In the original Naruto series and up to a certain point in the Boruto series, Naruto Uzumaki was the best user of Kurama’s power. However, in the latest developments of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex by Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto, we now have confirmation that Naruto Uzumaki is no longer the best Kurama user. This title instead goes to his very own daughter, Himawari Uzumaki.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Has Officially Made Jinchuriki Obsolete
The primary reason why Naruto Uzumaki is no longer the strongest Kurama user in the Boruto series is down to how the power system has been handled by Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto. In the original Naruto series, Jinchuriki formed a key part of the power system. In fact, it can be said that the Jinchuriki made up some of the strongest characters to exist in the Naruto world, and the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki ruled on top as the absolute strongest of the lot. Naruto Uzumaki was the Jinchuriki of the Nine-Tails, Kurama, and he also received a portion of the chakra of all the other Tailed Beasts. All of this eventually paved the way for him to awaken Six Paths Sage Mode, as seen in Naruto chapter 672, which was officially released on April 28, 2014, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 20.
“Since the Bijuu have inconceivable power, every country wanted to use them for military affairs. A Jinchuriki is something that exists to control this power of the Bijuu.” — Chiyo explains Jinchuriki, Naruto Chapter #261
In the Boruto series, the concept of Jinchuriki was downplayed tremendously. This is because, at the end of Naruto, the vast majority of the Tailed Beasts went their own way, leaving behind only two Jinchuriki — Naruto Uzumaki and Killer Bee. Unfortunately, Naruto Uzumaki lost his status as a jinchuriki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations chapter 55, which was officially released on February 19, 2021, in V-Jump Issue 4. In this chapter, after the utilization of Baryon Mode, Naruto lost Kurama permanently and was no longer a Jinchuriki, leaving behind Killer Bee, who is an irrelevant character in the grand scheme of things as the only Jinchuriki. While Kurama was lost by Naruto, its powers were eventually transferred to Himawari Uzumaki, but this transfer of powers did not make her a Jinchuriki. Instead, Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto created a completely new power system, which made Himawari the official best user of Kurama.
“Normally, when a Jinchuriki’s Biju is extracted, they die. But that doesn’t apply to you. The Biju chakra simply vanishes. It might look to others like you’re dead, but you’re just in a temporary state of shock. Don’t worry, you’ll wake up soon. The price to pay for Baryon Mode is my life, not yours. I’ve got to go, but be real careful. You aren’t gonna have superhuman strength anymore. So if you overdo it, you’ll end up joining me soon. But until that day comes, you be well, Naruto.” — Kurama dies, Boruto Chapter #55
Himawari Uzumaki Is The New Official Best User Of Kurama In Boruto
In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 10, which was officially released on May 20, 2024, in the Homecoming Arc of the series, Kurama explained to Himawari that he was reborn inside of her. According to Kurama, a portion of his chakra might have been passed to her upon her conception, which is why he was resurrected inside her.
Initially, most of us assumed that Himawari was the next Jinchuriki of Kurama, but he confirmed to her that the synergy between the two is far greater than he had with any previous host. In other words, Himawari has the potential to bring out far greater power from Kurama than any other user previously ever did, and that includes Naruto Uzumaki himself. This might have been confusing at one point, but seeing what Boruto has introduced in the form of the Humanoid Tail Beast Incarnations, this makes a lot of sense.
“Death is not eternal for Bijuu. Even if our flesh or soul perishes, over time a new kernel of us will sprout somewhere, and we will manage to return to life. You may have been born with a sliver of my chakra, or perhaps this was your destiny being brought into the world with both Uzumaki and Hyuga blood flowing within you.” — Kurama confirms Himawari inherited his chakra, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #10
In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter #25, which was released on August 20, 2025, as part of Volume 7 of the series, Kurama confirmed that Himawari is not exactly a Jinchuriki. In fact, Himawari is stated to be much closer to Jura, who is the direct incarnation of the Ten-Tails itself. In other words, Himawari and Kurama are one being who share one body and one soul. Previously, Kurama was sealed inside different individuals who acted as his host. They could then derive power from Kurama, but to a limited extent due to there being a disconnect between the two bodies. Himawari’s case is different. She is one body and one soul with Kurama, meaning all of Kurama’s powers are Himawari’s, and vice versa, and that makes her incredibly special.
“You’re no ordinary Shinobi. In fact, you’re even a little different from Jinchuriki… those who have the Tailed Beast inside them. You are human, yet, if anything, you’re more similar to me and Jura.” — Kurama confirms Himawari’s status, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #25
Himawari’s strength as a ninja was initially put on display in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 10, when she fought against Jura. In this chapter, she showed us that she was already stronger than Naruto Uzumaki with Sage Mode. Her strength was great enough to rival Jura in certain aspects of battle, and she could even revive Inojin Yamanaka from death, showcasing advanced control over healing powers as well.
Himawari’s Potential As A Ninja In Boruto
All things considered, Himawari Uzumaki is set up to be the best user of Kurama that we have ever seen in the Boruto series. Right now, Himawari is far from reaching her peak, and she is continuing her training with the Tailed Beast as we speak. Himawari is still quite young and has to develop further as a ninja, which means that in the coming months and years, she is going to grow tremendously. She has greater potential than Naruto Uzumaki ever did, and by the end of the series, she could very well have surpassed her own father, just like Boruto Uzumaki.
In fact, according to Daemon, Himawari’s potential might be even greater than that of Boruto, given that he deemed her to be the only one capable of actually rivaling her in the original Boruto series. Her potential is one of the most exciting parts of this new story, and we are sure that it will be explored in great detail in the coming arcs.
The latest chapters of Boruto are available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
