An arrest has been made after a Los Angeles dog owner offered a $50,000 cash reward for the safe return of his two pets, who were inside his SUV when it was allegedly stolen.
Darian Chin had stopped at a fast food restaurant in the West Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles at around 5 p.m. on August 24. He left his two dogs, 9-year-old terrier mix Buddy and 5-year-old Italian greyhound Bailey, inside the SUV with the air conditioning running.
Chin said he was inside the restaurant for only “a few minutes” before turning around and seeing what he described as an “about 20-year-old woman in my car, taking off.”

Chin told NBC 4 Los Angeles that he attempted to stop the woman from leaving by holding onto the vehicle, but she continued driving through the parking lot and into the street.
“She finally backed up the car while I was trying to hang on to the car, turn around, and then she exited the parking lot at a high rate of speed into the street,” he said.
“I held onto the car on the driver’s side, and she went into the middle of the street with me hanging onto the car. There were cars on both sides just watching us.”
Chin called 911 following the incident and was able to activate the SUV’s tracker, allowing him to follow the vehicle’s location through an app.
While the rear of his SUV sustained damage, Chin said his main concern was getting Buddy and Bailey back safely.
“The primary concern is our dogs that we want to get back, and we want to offer a $50,000 cash reward for the safe return of both dogs, no questions asked,” he said.
“The car has our registration and our address in it. Feel free to drop off the dogs and we’ll get the money to you somehow anonymously.”
Los Angeles Police Department officers later arrested a woman in connection with the incident, according to NBC 4 Los Angeles.
The incident comes after a blind man in Chicago spent months searching for his stolen service dog, Bam Bam, walking miles each day and putting up flyers across the city. Angel Santiago offered a $1,000 reward for the dog’s safe return, while PETA added another $5,000.
