Florence Pugh accuses Instagram of censoring her post about the Cornell University sexual assault case, says platform is silencing discussion.
Popular English actress Florence Pugh called out Instagram, claiming censorship after her post about the Cornell University sexual assault case was restricted on the platform. The MCU star put out a statement condemning the assault on September 27, 2026. The multi-part post featured severe criticism of the authorities for not appropriately punishing the seven men accused of the crime.
Instagram has a policy of restricting posts that it deems unsafe or inappropriate for a variety of reasons. Pugh’s post seemingly qualified, and the platform started restricting it soon after it started gaining traction. Florence Pugh took to Instagram Stories to criticize this action. Claiming censorship, the actress asked her followers if they can still access it:
“Rather worryingly, neither I nor some of my followers can access the recent post that I wrote about the Cornell College sexual abuse. Why is that? Has it been taken down for others? Am I being censored for talking about r***?”

“Pathetic Behaviour”: Florence Pugh Calls Out Instagram After Her Cornell Assault Post Gets “Partially Taken Down”
In two followup stories, Pugh confirmed that the post was “partially taken down.” She said that she saved the post and will try again. The actress scathingly commented about the platform silencing people talking about the assault:
“Yep, it’s been partially taken down. Some people can only see the trigger warning and some people can’t swipe. Great! Another lovely lesson to teach people that if you speak up about it, we will silence you! Good job, I saved it. I’ll give it another go.”
She then re-posted her initial statement about the Cornell assault, and blasted Instagram for blocking the first one. In the caption, she wrote:
“Instagram decided to block my post from getting in front of the right people. Tut tut tut. Oh dear. That doesn’t look great, does it? Here’s another go at it in case you were one of those people that can no longer see my post.”
However, in a third story, Florence Pugh claimed that Instagram was censoring her second post as well. Accusing the platform of “protecting ra*****,” Pugh slammed Instagram, writing:
“I just tried posting it again, and it’s blocking me from reaching people. Instagram, at least we can see what side you’re on. Don’t protect ra****. It’s pathetic behaviour.”
Instagram has not addressed the censorship accusation from Florence Pugh. In her original post, the actress called out educational institutions for protecting offenders and praised students and the victim for standing up. According to ABC, DA Van Houten reopened the 2024 case on September 27, 2026, and is planning to bring it before a grand jury.
