Popular streamer IShowSpeed’s first Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time death came at the wings and beaks of a swarm of angry chickens.
Following the November 5 release of Nintendo’s highly anticipated Ocarina of Time remake, IShowSpeed has been busy playing through the critically acclaimed Switch 2 game.
He’s even gone as far as to dress up as the legendary Hero of Time himself, and seems to be having a great time trekking through the lands of Hyrule.
However, despite donning Link’s signature green tunic, his first death was far from heroic, as he fell for one of the oldest rules in the Zelda playbook: Don’t mess with the chickens.
Speed dies to Cucco swarm in Ocarina of Time remake
The most deadly enemy in Ocarina of Time and the entire Zelda universe isn’t Ganondorf or his beast form, Ganon. No, every fan knows it’s the game’s Cuccos. These cute clucking chickens may look unassuming, but if you hit them, they’ll call upon their poultry pals and rain down a feathery hailstorm of pecks that will deplete your health bar in seconds.
It’s a rite of passage that every Zelda fan goes through, and it was no different for Speed when he decided to see if he could hit Cucco in Kakariko Village. “Alright, chat, let me see if I can hit this thing. Chat, you can’t hit the chicken!” the streamer shouted as the bird effortlessly dodged his sword swipes.
However, Speed was determined to stick the bird with the pointy end of his sword and kept pursuing his clucking target. After unleashing a barrage of slashes, the Cucoo finally decided it had had enough, and called out for its allies to stop Speed dead in his tracks.
“Oh sh*t, man, what the hell, KFC, man, what the hell? Hey bird!” Speed shouted frantically as a swarm of Cuccos dive-bombed him, pecking away at his health bar until he was left staring at the Game Over screen.

“Bro, my first death was to a chicken?! A chicken! Fried chicken. Say on god I just died to a chicken!” shouted the streamer, seemingly in complete disbelief over his chicken-based death.
As you can imagine, this went down particularly well with Zelda fans, with many highlighting it as a core event for every new player.
“All Zelda fans know not to tell first-time Zelda players about this. They need to find out the hard way. We all did,” joked one commenter. “It’s crazy watching this generation experience this game for the first time,” added another.
