2026 has largely been a sensational year for anime releases. The likes of Frieren and Jujutsu Kaisen made waves in January, and Re:Zero was the highlight of the Spring anime season. With all that being said, Black Clover Season 2 has been the one dominating since its October 2026 release.
Black Clover Season 2 sets itself up to be one of the highest-rated anime seasons of all time, and its fifth episode is currently the highest-rated on the entire IMDb platform, with a near-perfect score beating many shonen and seinen juggernauts. With strong nostalgia for Black Clover, the sensational story by Yuki Tabata, and the incredible production work of Studio Pierrot, Black Clover Season 2 has many more milestones and records to break in 2026 and 2027.
Black Clover Season 2 Episode 5 Becomes Highest Rated Anime Episode of All Time With A Near-Perfect Rating By Fans
Black Clover started its anime run rather underwhelmingly. The anime for Black Clover first debuted in 2017, when the series was picked up by Studio Pierrot, two years after its initial manga debut in 2015. Back then, Black Clover was a weekly anime, meaning the series got weekly episode releases with generally underwhelming quality and poor pacing, padded with a lot of filler. This kind of quality is the norm for weekly releases, as the studio simply doesn’t have the time or resources to push out high-quality episodes week by week. While there were a few standout episodes, these were the exceptions and not the norm. Either way, Black Clover’s anime went on to head on hiatus in 2021 because of a lack of manga content. For years, the manga continued its run, and eventually, on May 1, 2026, Yuki Tabata wrapped up the story in Jump GIGA’s Spring edition.
With that, the anime returned in full force with a new seasonal adaptation, titled Black Clover Season 2. Black Clover Season 2 released its first episode on October 3, 2026, and since then, we’ve been treated to sensational weekly episodes with extremely high quality. The most recent release that we received from the anime season, that is, Black Clover Season 2 Episode 5, titled “The Best vs. the Worst” premiered on October 31, 2026. This episode saw one of the most highly anticipated battles of the series take place. Instead of Asta and Yuno stealing the spotlight, we saw Magna, one of the weaker members of the Black Bulls, take center stage. Magna, despite his lower mana reserves, was able to take down one of the strongest antagonists of this arc: Dante Zogratis, one of the Dark Triad who hosted the power of the supreme devil Lucifero. All this was made possible through his immense preparations and physical strength.
The character progression of Magna, especially in this high-quality animated episode, has immediately made it, upon release, a fan favorite. That is why we were not surprised when one of the largest rating platforms in the world, IMDb, rated the episode as the best of the series. Currently, Black Clover Season 2 Episode 5 sits with a 9.9 out of 10 rating, a near-perfect score, with a total of 38k fan reviews, which is quite impressive.
Not only has this episode become the highest-rated in Black Clover history, but it has the most ratings out of the bunch, making this feat even more impressive. More importantly, this also makes it the highest-rated anime episode of all time on the platform.
With that being said, the only episode that could be considered better than it, based on platform ratings, is Vinland Saga Season 1 Episode 24. While both episodes have the exact same 9.9 rating out of 10, Vinland Saga has slightly more overall ratings, with 46k compared to Black Clover’s 38k. However, we could see Black Clover Season 2 Episode 5 surpass that with more time as it accumulates more user ratings. In terms of 2026 episodes, it is by far the best-rated and cements the series with an iconic new milestone, beating its own previous record of 9.8 out of 10, held by Episode 167, which, in comparison, only had 8K total user ratings.
Black Clover Season 2 Stands As One Of Highest Rated Anime Seasons Ever
Black Clover Season 2, in general, has been a total sensation, and that goes beyond simply its newest release of Episode 5. Ever since its debut on October 3, 2026, the popularity rise of the series has been unprecedented and hard to ignore. So far on IMDb, there isn’t a single Black Clover Season 2 episode with a rating under 9.3. Episode 1, which came out on October 3, currently stands at 9.4 out of 10 with 23k total ratings. Episode 2, the lowest of the season, is at 9.3 with 20k user ratings. Meanwhile, both Episodes 3 and 4, both with around 20k user ratings, stand at 9.6 out of 10.
Overall, Black Clover Season 2 sits at a 9.6 average. This is incredibly impressive, and on IMDb, it becomes the first Black Clover season to hit the milestone. Every other installment, which is categorized from Season 1 to Season 4, features scores under 9/10. This goes to show the high quality delivered by Studio Pierrot, as well as the insanely gripping story crafted by Yuki Tabata for the Spade Kingdom Raid arc.
Why Black Clover Is Set to Score New Records With Season 2
Black Clover Season 2 has only just started. The series first premiered around one month ago, and it still has quite a long way to go. At the moment, we don’t have a confirmed episode count for the series, but the latest information indicates 26 episodes in total that are set to cover the entirety of the remaining chapters of the manga by Yuki Tabata. The battle between Dante and Magna is already incredible, but the Spade Kingdom Raid arc has even more in store.
As things stand, Noelle prepares to take on Megicula in battle, while Yuno is set to face Zenon Zogratis and unlock his true potential in the process. Yami’s life hinges on the victory of the Clover Mages, but the true excitement will come in the second part of Season 2 of Black Clover, scheduled to be released sometime in 2027. It is here that Judgment Day, the finale of Black Clover, will be brought to life.
The stakes will be higher than ever before, and Studio Pierrot is guaranteed to go all out for the last arc. The biggest battles of the series are being set up, and the final farewell of Black Clover will bring together all fans watching weekly. With such exciting high-octane battles on the way, Black Clover is set to break many more records. We’re sure that Black Clover Season 2 Episode 5 will not be the last episode of Season 2 to reach the near-perfect score of 9.9 out of 10. The overall ratings of Black Clover Season 2 will also rise drastically, not only on IMDb but also on other rating platforms like MyAnimeList and Crunchyroll.
