Hololive company reaches settlement with minor over false VTuber privacy claims

Cover Corporation, the company behind Hololive Production, has reached a settlement with a minor who posted false personal information about one of its talents, with the minor’s legal guardian agreeing to cover the damages.

In an English-language notice published on October 28, Cover said the individual presented false information about a VTuber as if it were true, violating the talent’s privacy rights. The company said a court recognized the posts as an infringement, after which it used a disclosure request to identify the person behind them.

Cover did not name the VTuber, reveal which platform hosted the posts, or disclose the amount of compensation agreed to in the settlement.

Cover settlement required posts to be deleted and an apology issued

According to Cover, the settlement required the minor to delete the posts, submit a written apology, pay damages, and promise not to commit further acts of defamation or other rights violations against any of the company’s talents.

The agreement also included a penalty if the promise was broken. Because the person was underage, their legal guardian agreed to cover the damages and take responsibility for supervising them in the future.

Cover also warned that users could face consequences for more than simply creating false claims. The company said insulting talents, spreading baseless information, posting details about their private lives, and reposting infringing material could all lead to legal liability.

The company specifically rejected the idea that users can avoid responsibility by arguing that they “only reposted it” or were not the original author.

“Although the disclosure request revealed that the perpetrator was a minor, this does not change the fact that an affiliated talent was emotionally harmed,” Cover said in its notice.

The company said it plans to publish another update on its legal response to rights violations around January 2027.
