On October 20, 2026, President Donald Trump took questions from the media at a press briefing. During it, The Independent’s White House correspondent Andrew Feinberg asked him several questions. Trump appeared frustrated by the questions, eventually lashing out. Feinberg asked the president about the Fraud Whistleblower Incentive Program, a $25 million federal initiative.

After Trump shared his thoughts on it, Vice President JD Vance addressed the question, calling it fundamentally dishonest. Feinberg then tried to ask another question, but the president quickly shut down the opportunity. He said:

“No, no, listen to you. Hey!… I don’t know who the hell you are, but you better be careful.”

Feinberg then asked another question about Trump’s golf course, which the president also shut down. He said:

“Wait, wait, wait. Quiet, quiet. What’s wrong with you? Are you a sick person? No, I actually think there’s something wrong with you.”

Clips of the press briefing where Feinberg asked questions of Donald Trump went viral on social media platforms. The White House correspondent immediately countered the president’s claim on X that he did not know who Feinberg was. Saying he had revealed his identity to the president not five minutes before the exchange, he wrote:

“I had told him exactly who I was not five minutes before this exchange.”

JD Vance shared a clip of Trump’s back-and-forth with Feinberg. Calling him an “imbecile journalist,” he wrote:

“President Donald J. Trump eviscerates imbecile ‘journalist’ Andrew Feinberg for misbehaving in the Oval Office”

In response, the journalist asked Vance to tag him if he was going to insult him. He wrote:

“Mr. Vice President, if you’re going to insult me, at least have the guts to tag my account.”
