Donald Trump says foreign enemies can “take out” Los Angeles and San Diego amid war with Iran; Gavin Newsom responds.

Gavin Newsom has called Donald Trump a “deranged and dangerous” individual for his recent comments.
On October 5, 2026, a clip from Trump’s speech at a Midterm rally in Nebraska went viral on X. In it, the President of the United States described the current high gas prices as “artificial,” caused by the ongoing war.
While claiming that “it’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe,” Trump said:
“And again, remember, with the war, it’s just artificial; it’s a little bit high. It’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe; keeping our country safe. They can take out a city – let ’em take out Los Angeles. Let ’em take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay, and it’s going to be over with very soon. It’s essentially almost over with, and they might keep going a little longer. You know? They always say they have a big threshold for pain. They need it. Let me tell you, they need it. But it’s going to end very soon, and it will end one way or the other, and your gas and your gasoline, and all of the things…”
Gavin Newsom responded to Donald Trump’s remarks on the same day, writing:
“After sending the National Guard and Marines to occupy California, Donald Trump is now saying our foreign enemies should “take out” Los Angeles and San Diego. He is deranged and dangerous.”
Furthermore, the official X account of the Governor Newsom Press Office stated the following in response to Trump’s aforementioned statements:
“Let’s be clear: The President is advocating for an attack on 10+ million U.S. residents in two of America’s largest cities. This is not normal. None of this is. And we will continue to remind folks of that every day.”

Mehdi Hasan has also shared his thoughts on Trump’s statements, which have gone viral on social media. The political commentator demanded the President’s impeachment “on day one” of a Democratic Congress, writing:
“Impeach him on day one of a Democratic Congress”
