Internet backlash erupts after Andrew Callaghan hands Channel 5’s mailing list to Hunter Biden for a crypto coin launch.
YouTuber Andrew Callaghan, who runs “Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan,” is facing backlash after revealing that Hunter Biden was given access to the outlet’s email mailing list.
According to The Wall Street Journal, 20% of Hunter Biden’s cryptocurrency $LAPTOP’s total token supply was initially planned for two airdrops targeting several groups, including people who lost money on Donald Trump’s $TRUMP meme coin, subscribers to Biden’s Substack, and people on a mailing list maintained by Callaghan.
After reports about the mailing list emerged, the official Channel 5 account addressed the issue on social media. The account said Hunter Biden had asked for the email list so he could promote a new product. Channel 5 said it provided him with a CSV file containing the list to help him grow his audience.
However, the outlet stressed that it had nothing to do with Biden’s cryptocurrency project and said it would not advertise crypto:
“Channel 5 and I have nothing to do with Hunter Biden’s crypto coin. We have not, do not, and never will advertise crypto. Hunter asked if he could use our mailing list whenever he launched a new product. We provided him with a simple CSV sheet from our email list to help him expand his audience. As we have told our followers numerous times, we do not believe crypto is a legitimate investment. We wish Hunter the best; shout-out to the homie.”
The account also said it made sure that no emails were sent directly to Channel 5’s public subscribers about the coin:
“ALSO: emails from Hunter’s team have not gone out to any of our public subscribers; we were able to get all info completely removed from the list before the blast was sent.”
As news of the disclosure spread, users questioned why an outlet that has repeatedly expressed skepticism toward cryptocurrency would hand over its mailing list to someone launching a crypto project:
“Not only do Channel 5 and Andrew fake their interviews, but they also give away your info to recovering addicts. Channel 5 is a fraud and can’t be trusted,” X user @nickshirleyy said.
“Fan of Channel 5, but this looks so bad. ‘Simple CSV’ doesn’t make handing over user data sound any better,” X user @chuckhanlon commented.
“How on earth could you think that is okay to do? ‘A simple CSV sheet from our email list’ AKA personal information that your subscribers trusted you with…,” X user @tosheegee wrote.
“Thanks for selling our data to Hunter Biden. That’s cool,” X user @dailyspacefact said.
Another YouTuber Warned About Hunter Biden’s $LAPTOP
On September 7, 2026, Biden shared a video on X discussing the meme coin, which is scheduled to launch on September 9.
His post soon caught the attention of investigative YouTuber Coffeezilla, who reposted the video on X only a few hours later and used the opportunity to caution his audience about the project:
“After months of calling out Trump corruption, Hunter Biden is launching his own s***coin called LAPTOP. Do not buy it.”
The $LAPTOP name refers to a laptop Hunter Biden left at a computer repair shop in Wilmington, Delaware, in 2019. Material from the device later became public ahead of the 2020 presidential election and was widely used in political arguments over Hunter Biden’s foreign business activities.
The laptop story did not disappear after the election. It remained part of the public debate surrounding Hunter Biden for years. In 2024, prosecutors also relied on evidence obtained from the laptop during Hunter Biden’s federal gun trial.
