A flea market shopper struck gold after paying $30 for a PC expansion card containing three Samsung SSDs potentially worth around $1,500.
The discovery was shared by Sunny, who posts his flea market finds on Instagram as @whateversunnyfinds, after visiting the Souq-al-Juma flea market in Kuwait City with a friend.
“So me and my friend were checking some stuff out at the flea market and that’s when he told me he bought this M2 SSD enclosure,” Sunny explained.
“I was confused because you can commonly find these at the flea market, but little did I know that he had struck gold.”

Unlike a completely accidental discovery, Sunny said his friend had already spotted SSDs through the expansion card before deciding to hand over his money.
“He only bought this because he noticed that there were SSDs inside,” he explained.
However, they didn’t know exactly what was hiding beneath the heatsink until they began taking it apart.
Removing the cover revealed three Samsung 980 Pro 2TB SSDs still installed inside the Asus Hyper M.2 x16 expansion card.
“Holy f**king sh*t, my jaw literally dropped,” Sunny said after seeing what his friend had bought.
As of writing, buying the same SSD brand new from most retailers costs anywhere between $450 and $500, putting the combined retail price of three new SSDs at roughly $1,300 to $1,500.
Even without the three SSDs, the expansion card itself was worth more than they paid, with the Asus Hyper M.2 x16 Gen 4 currently selling for around $79.
Sunny subsequently shared another look at the find on Instagram, showing all three Samsung drives sitting beneath the card’s heatsink.
It’s unclear how the SSDs ended up at the flea market or whether the person selling the expansion card knew exactly what was inside.
The condition and health of the drives also haven’t been confirmed, meaning their actual value could differ considerably from the current retail price of three new 980 Pros.
This isn’t the first time people have scored expensive tech for a fraction of the real value at flea markets. Back in March, a man from the UK discovered and purchased a Xbox 360 containing a beta version of GTA 4 for $6.
