The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Get Durandal Sword

Discover how to find the Durandal legendary sword early in The Blood of Dawnwalker with our detailed walkthrough. 

The Durandal is a legendary longsword in The Blood of Dawnwalker and one of the earliest legendaries you can find after completing the prologue. Since the sword can be upgraded to keep up with the increasing difficulty, it might be the only weapon you need for the rest of the playthrough. However, getting Durandal will cost you two day segments as part of the Cursed Chasm side quest. 

Where to Find Durandal in The Blood of Dawnwalker

To find Durandal, head west of Briar Sloughs and Laslea until you arrive at a broken bridge with a destroyed cart next to it. Loot the cart to find Special Orders, which reveals that it was carrying Durandal, a treasured sword bound for the heir to Greifberg Castle. 

Take the path on the right to head down to the chasm floor where you’ll find the other half of the cart bearing the legendary weapon. Wolves and an Echo boss will appear as you approach the area. Defeat the enemies and loot the cart to get Durandal along with Rebel’s Sturdy Coat of Plates, and Artisanal Bracers. 

The legendary sword is now yours, and should provide a massive power boost to Coen, especially if you got it in the early game. In the chasm, you can also loot a sack next to a skeleton. It contains a map which begins the Finders Keepers side quest.

How to Avoid Fighting Echo

If you’re unable to defeat Echo and the wolves at the bottom of the chasm, you can avoid them entirely and loot the cart to get Durandal. Arrive at night and climb the ledge running along the chasm wall. Crouch and move stealthily until you are past the wolves and can drop down to loot the cart. You can then run away from the enemies until they lose aggro.

The Blood of Dawnwalker: Durandal Stats

Here are the initial stats of Durandal, which can be upgraded further: 

• Type: Legendary Longsword
• Level: 15
• +11.2% Damage Against Supernatural
• -21% Attack Stamina Cost
• -21% Dodge Stamina Cost
• -7% Swordmastery Ability Cooldown

Note: The Durandal will appear with better stats if you are at a higher level. We completed the Cursed Chasm quest at level 21, which led to the Durandal spawning at level 23 with 325 DPS.

The Durandal’s description reads, “Named after the legendary Roland’s sword… or is it the real thing?”

This description refers to the historical Durendal, which was the sword of Roland, a paladin serving Emperor Charlemagne in the 8th century.
