Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom announced that he filed a federal complaint against WNBA team Chicago Sky for ejecting him from a recent game. In a post on X dated September 3, 2026, Freedom shared a screenshot of the legal complaint and said the team violated his First Amendment rights. For those out of the loop, Enes Kanter Freedom went viral earlier this year for claiming he would join the WNBA. The stunt was essentially an anti-trans protest that gained prominence online.
On August 23, 2026, the former NBA player was at the Wintrust Arena attending the WNBA match between the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever. During the match, Enes Kanter Freedom got into a verbal spat with Sky point guard Natasha Cloud. Officials then escorted him out of the arena. Now, he is taking legal action against both the Chicago Sky and Wintrust Arena.
In a statement on X, Enes Kanter Freedom accused them of violating his right to protest. Defending his anti-trans protest, he said:
“Just filed a federal complaint. I’m taking legal action over my ejection from the @chicagosky game while peacefully exercising my First Amendment rights. My T-shirt did what the whole @WNBA apparently couldn’t: define a woman. No threats. No violence. Just biology.”
At the match, Enes was wearing a T-shirt that reads:
“Woman, noun: adult human female.”

“I Will Not Be Silenced”: Enes Kanter Freedom Takes Legal Action Against Chicago Sky
Enes Kanter Freedom’s argument is that by ejecting him, match officials and the team violated his right to free speech. In his statement, the former NBA player said that he was not going to be silenced, writing:
“And somehow, that required a security escort. You don’t have to agree with my speech, but you don’t get to silence me for it. I will not be intimidated. I will not be silenced.”
He added that his actions were supposedly defending women:
“I will continue to stand for women and defend free speech.”
As per Marca, Chicago Sky owner Michael Alter did not agree with this. In a statement from last week, Alter announced banning Enes Kanter Freedom and called him a potential threat:
“He has demonstrated to us, unequivocally, that he has the potential to be a threat. He is not able to control himself to the extent that we can feel comfortable that he may not step toward the court again and toward the players.”
Alter also emphasized the role of proactive security during the interaction that resulted in Enes Kanter Freedom’s ejection. In his statement, the Chicago Sky owner claimed he was kicked out because he started walking towards the players.
