Bruce Wayne’s house in Batman is being checked for actual bats that live there

A historic manor in England, which doubled as Wayne Manor in Batman Begins, needs to be checked for bats, or the owners might end up losing it.

For a lot of people, actually visiting the place where their favorite movie or TV show was filmed is a big enough dream in and of itself. However, actually owning that location, well that’s an even bigger dream for some.

Over in Buckinghamshire, England, Mentmore Towers is one such location. It has been used in the filming of a number of movies. Yet, it is most known for its role in Batman Begins.

Throughout Batman Begins, the historic estate doubles as the backdrop of Wayne Manor, but in an ironic twist, it now needs to be checked for bats, or the owners could end up having to hand it over.

Batman Begins Wayne Manor needs serious repairs

According to the BBC, Buckinghamshire Council has hit the owners of Metmore Towers with a notice to repair the listed building and must conduct a bat survey too.

As per the notice, the repair work is “reasonably necessary for the proper preservation” of the building. The owners have until August 2027 to complete three bat-emergence surveys, as well as allowing Historic England and council officers the chance to inspect the building weekly once repairs start. 

Historic England said that the listed building is in “very bad” shape and “declining,” with the council able to issue a compulsory purchase order if the works are not started in a timely manner.

Mentmore Towers needs repairs.

The location was not used in the follow-up movies from Christopher Nolan, with other filming locations being used for Wayne Manor instead. 

Yet, fans still recognise the role it played in the iconic film, and plenty have visited to take photos of it.
