Reckless Ben and his friend infiltrated a school for “struggling kids” as part of a new exposé documentary that aims to investigate its poor standards.
Provo Canyon School, a for-profit residential treatment centre for children and teenagers, has been plagued by accusations of abuse for generations. One of its most famous residents is Paris Hilton who has held protests outside the school and discussed its malpractice at length.
Now, following two major lawsuits and having been stripped of both its boys and girls’ campus licences, YouTube documentarian Reckless Ben has released a video in which he and his friend Sheldon both infiltrate the Utah school, posing as a student and teacher respectively.
Sheldon was hired despite having a criminal record
The video sees Sheldon document the hiring process from the inside. Despite his criminal record, the company hire him after an interview focused only on his ability to restrain students, and a medical exam in which the answers are dictated to him by the management team.
Meanwhile, the 30-year-old Ben poses as a 17-year-old student whose father wants to admit him to the school because of his “gay thoughts”. The school claim to be LGBTQIA+ friendly, but nevertheless accept him on this basis alone, along with a $49,400 fee.
The video exposes much of the school’s malpractice including verbal and physical abuse such as “slamming” students to the ground, its use of solitary confinement for something as small as stealing potato chips, feeding them expired products, and not educating them despite technically being a school.
While posing as a student, Ben escapes the facility. However, when the school calls his “father”, they do not reveal what has happened and instead attempt to settle the outstanding balance.
The video ends with the school denying any knowledge of Ben’s disappearance. He is set to upload a second part to answer what happened next.
