15 Best Online Co-Op Games on PS Plus Extra

A great thing about PlayStation Plus is its coverage. With more than 500 games available on the Extra and Premium tiers, something exists to satisfy every single person, or, in this case, people. While single-player titles tend to hog the limelight, the best PS Plus online co-op games rank among the service’s top offerings, and they cover everything from RPGs to shooters and survival titles. The service has PS5 console exclusives like Returnal and Ghost of Tsushima that provide unique co-op experiences unavailable on other systems (besides PC).

The PS5 dashboard and PS Store could do a better job of highlighting the online co-op games on PS Plus, and it can be difficult to streamline a selection. Consequently, let’s simplify the process by reviewing the very best multiplayer options in the Extra tier. Find a friend (or a stranger) and have some fun.

Games that only support online co-op will be prioritized since local co-op titles are highlighted in a separate article. That said, a few exceptions that support both local and online co-op will be included.

Also, while quality matters, games are ranked by other factors as well. For instance, games leaving PS Plus soon will be highlighted first.

New PS Plus Game August 2026: Helldivers 2

Become a Hero. Become a Legend. Become a Helldiver.

Perhaps the biggest online co-op game added to PS Plus in 2026, Helldivers 2 is an absolute massive name, and the only downside is that I imagine many subscribers already have the game. Still, if you have yet to enlist, now is the perfect time to jump into one of the most beloved multiplayer shooters of the decade. Yes, the community tends to run hot and cold depending on the latest update, but the core gameplay loop is reliably fantastic and can absolutely take over your entire life.

While solo runs are technically viable on lower levels, Helldivers 2 is very much designed with 4-player teams in mind, and the difficulty doesn’t scale to match the number of people participating in a mission. Basically, you will eventually need to jump online and join other SEAF soldiers. Mechanically, the game blends relatively accessible third-person shooting with build variety courtesy of Stratagems, and optimized groups are required for the harder levels.

Famously, Helldivers 2 doesn’t have a traditional story; instead, the narrative emerges naturally, and each day brings orders for players to follow (so they aren’t just clearing missions in a void). Although a few years old by this point, the game remains widely popular, and crossplay ensures it will remain so for a long time.

New PS Plus Game August 2026: Vampire Survivors

Although primarily known as a single-player game, Vampire Survivors eventually added co-op, and the online variant surpasses the local mode in both player count and unrestricted freedom. As with the best online co-op games, the mode brings something new to the plate that can be fully experienced solo. In this case, build synergy becomes widely important, as players can hold fewer weapons and passives.

Vampire Survivors treats co-op as very much friend-driven, to the point of not including matchmaking. The mode works with room codes and friend invites, so you cannot play with random folks. While a limitation, the game knows what it wants to be and commits to it. I would recommend VS to pretty much anybody regardless of what they are looking for, and while it isn’t the first PS Plus game that comes to mind when thinking “online multiplayer,” it is certainly a valid shout.

Two Na’vi Is Better Than One

PS Plus doesn’t regularly prioritize co-op, but July’s lineup has a couple of games that qualify. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind is probably the most obvious one, but the beat ’em up will not be added to PS Plus until July 28; however, all three Extra games added on July 21 support online co-op.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora tends to be labeled as a Far Cry clone, and while that is a bit too reductive, it handles co-op largely in the same way as the last few entries in that franchise. You and a friend can play through the campaign together, and you can just drop in whenever you want. This means that the two players don’t have to be at the same point in the story, although I would recommend just starting a new playthrough if that is at all viable.

As the headline act of July 2026, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is better than its reputation, as it tends to be dismissed quite a bit. The combat is fun, the visuals are spectacular, and it works really well as a power fantasy. Give it a go.

Firefighting Simulator: Ignite

Fight Fires With Friends

Firefighting Simulator: Ignite will likely get overshadowed by Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Rise of the Ronin, but it is an easy recommendation for any group of friends craving something that is simultaneously relaxing and stressful. You can work together and take on different roles while trying to put down a fire, and coordination is pretty important if you want to save everyone. Although it is known for the occasional bug, Ignite could be an underappreciated online co-op PS Plus game.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

An Online Co-Op Game That Is Bloody Awesome

The big new PS Plus Extra game of March 2026, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, is a huge addition in various ways, but it is a particularly exciting arrival for the online co-op scene. Putting aside the other modes for the moment, Saber’s gore-tastic third-person shooter features a campaign that allows for 3 players, although it only supports online co-op. At roughly 10 hours, the story mode isn’t extremely long by any stretch of the imagination, but it is a reasonable length that can keep a group of players entertained for a couple of days. Epic in scale and vicious in combat, the campaign is (mostly) everything it needs to be, and the gameplay is fun enough to perhaps justify more than one playthrough.

Space Marine 2‘s real longevity comes from its online options, including two modes that are largely designed around co-op: Operations and Siege. These are both PvE and are designed for repeat playthroughs, with Operations coming with a progression system that allows you to develop your Marine. While Siege is a basic-ish horde mode that simply pushes the gameplay to the forefront (a wise decision), Operations is a touch more story-driven, although it still takes a combat-first approach. Heck, even the PvP Eternal War mode has an element of co-op, since teamwork is required, not just recommended.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a great co-op option if you prefer fantasy AND first-person action.

Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria

Up To 8 Dwarves Can Work Together To Survive Post-Sauron Middle-earth

The Lord of the Rings is one of the most storied franchises of all time, and its gaming chapter is far from an exception. Over the last three decades, roughly a billion games have been set in Middle-earth, most of which fall under the action RPG or adventure genres. Return to Moria opts for a different angle, shifting towards survival and crafting. Considering the story revolves around dwarves, the gameplay style makes complete sense for the characters, and it is also interesting to visit this world after Sauron’s demise.

Return to Moria is somewhat forgotten nowadays, partly due to an uneven launch and an overabundance of survival games; however, if you are into LOTR and don’t mind the genre, this title is arguably one of the best of the last decade. The single-player is solid, but co-op is (unsurprisingly) more fun. Although the scaling of resources for multiplayer could be better optimized, co-op captures that “fellowship” element synonymous with LOTR, all the while making the grind a bit more manageable.

Grand Theft Auto Online

The Biggest Online Co-Op Game On PS Plus

Coming and going as it pleases, Grand Theft Auto 5 returned to PS Plus Extra just a few months after it was removed. On the one hand, this makes it slightly difficult to get into the game’s online portion, out of fear that it might leave quicker than other PS Plus games. Conversely, GTA is always a big deal, and repeat arrivals do not dull its appeal.

If you are solely into the single-player side of things, GTA Online might be, in your own opinion, the worst thing to happen to the franchise; however, if you are part of the ecosystem that makes up Rockstar’s eternal sandbox, then you have a game that has been going strong for more than a decade. Even with GTA 6 on the horizon, it does not seem like GTA Online will be going away anytime soon.

You can mostly play this mode in whatever way you prefer, and it is up to you whether you engage actively with other players. If you do go down that route, GTA Online has a plethora of co-op missions and heists that will keep you busy and make you rich in the process. It goes without saying, but GTA Online is more fun with a crew.

Abiotic Factor

One Of The Best Co-Op PS Plus Games

PS Plus Extra has received a couple of great Day One games in 2025, including August’s fantastic Sword of the Sea. However, if we are talking exclusively about titles that support online co-op, Abiotic Factor is in a league of its own. After a spell in early access, Deep Field Games’ masterclass made its full debut on PC and consoles, and it is about as close to a perfect cooperative experience as PS Plus subscribers are likely to get. Set in an underground facility that is way weirder and bigger than it initially seems, Abiotic Factor is about surviving and thriving with your mates, exploring the ever-expanding universe while also creating a home that you call your own.

Played from a first-person perspective, you will spend your time preparing for expeditions/missions, investigating cool areas filled with alien monsters, satisfying basic needs like hunger and exhaustion, and just chilling with your mates. Abiotic Factor especially nails the latter, as the game does a stellar job of blending action with downtime where you can just exist as part of your group.

Ghost Of Tsushima: Legends

Mythological-Leaning Co-Op Spin-Off Game

Ghost of Tsushima is a fantastic action-adventure game with a robust single-player campaign. A few months following the base title’s debut, Sucker Punch dropped Legends, a co-op side experience deep enough to justify a standalone release. Along with common modes like Survival, Legends also comes with a Story that guides two players through roughly 6 hours of content.

Legends has four classes: Samurai, Ronin, Assassin, and Hunter. Each one fits an archetype and has a specific role they should be fulfilling in combat scenarios. While some options, like the Samurai, are viable for solo or two-player runs, classes like the Ronin are designed with support in mind. Legends might just be the best PS Plus online co-op game.

As Dusk Falls

As Dusk Falls shines the brightest in local co-op, where players use their mobiles or tablets to vote on decisions. However, the game also supports online co-op, allowing up to 8 players to join in. Considering everyone needs to have a copy for this to work, As Dusk Falls being on PS Plus Extra makes it a far more realistic option for large groups, as it is hard to imagine that every person would be interested in purchasing a story-driven adventure game that is well-regarded but not out of this world beloved.

Revolving around two families in Arizona, As Dusk Falls explores multi-generational trauma, all the while telling a story that leans into crime and melodrama. The storytelling is quite good and regularly intense, and the choices presented to players are plentiful and significant. The art style can be a bit of a sticking point at first, but it will probably grow on you as time passes. The co-op is implemented pretty well, and it is always interesting to see how your friend group votes. Admittedly, this is one of those games that requires everyone to really participate and not just pick the “wrong” answer for the fun of it.
