TikToker Dr Food walks free months after life sentence for smuggling drugs in sweets

TikTok food influencer Dr Food has been released from custody in Lebanon under a new general amnesty law, months after receiving a life sentence in a drug case involving narcotics concealed in biscuit products.

The creator, whose real name is Georges Hanna Dib, built an audience of millions through food and lifestyle videos. He also owns a confectionery business whose products became central to the allegations against him.

The Mount Lebanon Criminal Court sentenced Dib to life in prison with hard labor in absentia in March, according to Gulf News. He was subsequently arrested at his home on August 23 following a month of police investigations and surveillance.

New amnesty law ends proceedings against Dr Food

According to MTV Lebanon, the court ordered Dib’s release on October 15 and ended proceedings against him after determining that his case qualified under the general amnesty law, which took effect that day.

Dib reportedly qualified because his case concerned an alleged offense committed before March 1, 2026, and he did not fall under the law’s exclusion for repeat drug offenses.

His lawyer, Issam Khoury, had denied his involvement in drug trafficking. The defense submitted evidence concerning Dib’s location and phone activity, arguing there was no evidence of contact with the other suspects.

Earlier in October, Dib had been granted bail in a separate case involving allegations of abuse brought by his former wife, Shorouk. He remained in custody at that point because the drug proceedings were still outstanding.

Following his release, Dib returned to his hometown of Rahbeh in northern Lebanon, where residents gathered to welcome him, according to Erem News.

Speaking after his release, Dib denied receiving special treatment during his detention and praised how authorities treated those in custody. He also joked about the conditions, saying, “The place was a hotel,” according to Erem News, translated from Arabic.

Dib said he was preparing to resume his professional activities and promised further developments in the coming days. His release came less than two months after his arrest.
