Taco Bell is giving Duolingo’s mascot its own sauce in Taco Day collab

Taco Bell and Duolingo are teaming up for Global Taco Day with a new limited-edition sauce, free Super Duolingo subscriptions, and a special version of the language app’s famous owl mascot.

The collaboration arrives on October 6 as Taco Bell takes its National Taco Day celebration worldwide for the first time. The company says the idea was inspired by the word “taco,” which remains largely unchanged across more than 30 languages.

The partnership will span Taco Bell restaurants in the US and several international markets, with Duo Habanero Sauce leading the promotion alongside giveaways and special events.

Taco Bell launches limited-edition Duo Habanero Sauce

Duo Habanero Sauce is described as bright and tangy with fruity notes and habanero heat. It will come in specially designed packets featuring taco-inspired sayings across nine languages, including English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Portuguese, German, Korean, Mandarin, and Japanese.

The sauce launches October 6 at participating Taco Bell locations in the US, Canada, Australia, China, India, Spain, and the UK while supplies last.

In the US, customers can get one Duo Habanero Sauce packet for free with the purchase of a Doritos Locos Taco. Additional packets will be available for 20 cents each at participating locations.

“Language and food are two of the most powerful ways we connect with culture and with each other,” Duolingo Chief Marketing Officer Emmanuel Orssaud said. “Taco is a rare word that travels easily across cultures, making it a fun starting point for getting people curious about language.”

The collaboration also includes a free month of Super Duolingo for eligible Taco Bell Rewards members. Codes will be available from October 1 through October 6 and must be redeemed by November 15. The offer is limited to Rewards members who are not currently Duolingo subscribers and meet the promotion’s eligibility requirements.

Taco Bell and Duolingo are also giving away limited-edition Duo plushies dressed in a Taco Bell uniform with a miniature headset. In the US, Rewards members can enter through Taco Bell’s Tuesday Drops page on October 6 at 2 PM PT. The promotion’s official rules list 500 plushies as prizes for US entrants, with additional plushie promotions taking place internationally.

Duo and other Duolingo characters will also appear at Taco Bell’s Midtown Cantina in New York City on October 6 from 3 PM to 4:30 PM ET. The event will feature tacos, Duo Habanero Sauce, language-themed activities, swag, and giveaways while supplies last.

Additional Global Taco Day events are planned in Toronto, Mumbai, and Shanghai.

The Duolingo partnership follows another recent Taco Bell collaboration with Salt & Straw, which brought the Churro Ice Cream Taco nationwide for a limited time alongside a new Baja Blast Colada drink.
