Super Smash Bros Melee icon Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma briefly fainted after winning a tense, last-stock Game 5 match at Supernova 2026, an event held in Baltimore, Maryland, from August 6 to 9.
Hungrybox was competing in a Top 16 winners qualifying match against Ice Climbers player SluG. The set came down to the final stock in the final game, with Hungrybox securing the win to advance into the bracket.
Collapse comes moments after the celebration
Immediately after the victory, Hungrybox collapsed. Footage posted on X showed the moment he went down, though he was able to get back up shortly after and was confirmed to be physically fine.
Hungrybox addressed the incident himself on X, taking it in stride.
He also reassured fans it wasn’t due to poor tournament habits. “And yes I had water and a very good lobster roll for lunch prior,” he added.
Fans reacted with a mix of concern and humour. “Brother you need to check your blood sugar this is not normal,” one wrote. Another added: “Check your blood pressure and sodium levels bro. Happy for you but for real take better care of yourself.”
One fan pointed to his history of extreme pop-offs. “You have passed out twice, broken a chair, broke a CRT, and broke your foot just from popping off.”
It marks the second time he has fainted following an intense post-match celebration, having previously passed out for around 10 seconds during a stream of East Coast Fridays, a weekly Melee tournament series, in February 2021.
Supernova has produced plenty of memorable Hungrybox moments over the years. In 2025, he turned the tournament into an impromptu auction house, signing and selling off his third-place medal to the highest bidder after falling short of the title.
