Shrek 2 remaster leaks early with four-player online co-op

A remaster of the Shrek 2 video game has leaked early, with its Microsoft Store page revealing four-player online co-op and 4K visuals.

The store page for Shrek 2 Remastered went live on October 16 before any official announcement, as first spotted by Gematsu, and has since been taken down.. It lists Aspyr, the studio behind several recent remasters of classic games, as the developer.

Shrek 2 Remastered adds online play to the 2004 classic

The original Shrek 2 game was released by Activision in 2004 as a tie-in to the movie, letting players team up as characters like Shrek, Donkey and Puss in Boots.

According to the now defunct store page, the remaster supports “up to four-player couch cooperative play, online or mixed,” so friends can join locally, online or a combination of both.

The game has also been rebuilt with improved textures, an updated UI, 4K resolution and enhanced cutscenes. A new Photo Mode and Cheat Mode have been added too.

Players can still swap between heroes at any time as they fight enemies, take on bosses and solve puzzles on the way from Shrek’s swamp to Far Far Away.

It isn’t the first time the remaster has surfaced. A Shrek 2 game was among the titles revealed in a huge Steam achievements leak back in September.

There’s no price or release date on the store page yet. Most likely an official reveal could come at the ID@Xbox Showcase on October 20, as Shrek briefly appears in the event’s teaser trailer.
