A Resident Evil fan is turning Zach Cregger’s new movie into a survival horror game that looks like it came straight off the original PlayStation.
Developer Julian Zamora, who goes by chicanogoth on Instagram, has shared early footage of the project, which is being built in the Godot engine and uses the fixed camera angles the original games were known for.
Fan game recreates the Resident Evil movie’s barn scene
The clip recreates one of the film’s early scenes, where Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, takes shelter in a barn during a snowstorm before being chased down by an infected dog.
Like the PS1 games, the camera switches between set angles as Bryan moves, with the barn looming in the background as the dog closes in.
Cregger’s Resident Evil released in theaters on September 18 and follows Bryan, a medical courier who has to fight his way through an outbreak to deliver a package to Raccoon City General Hospital.
It isn’t the first time fans have mashed the movie up with the classic games. Shortly after release, a modder added Bryan to Resident Evil 2 as a PS1-style skin.
Zamora hasn’t shared a release date for the fan game, but has said more progress will be shown soon.
