Pokimane has revealed that her cat Mimi died after falling from the balcony of her home while she was streaming.
The Twitch star stepped away from her September 28 stream after learning Mimi had been taken to an emergency vet, later returning to explain what had happened.
Pokimane says Mimi fell from balcony during stream
Pokimane said cleaners had opened the balcony door while she was streaming, allowing Mimi to make her way outside.
She initially said she wasn’t sure why the door had been opened, as the balcony wasn’t usually cleaned, but later clarified the circumstances in a post on X.
“It turns out the cleaners opened the door to let a breeze in, and didn’t close the screen door,” she wrote.
Pokimane said Mimi stepped onto the balcony a couple of minutes later and fell.
After learning Mimi was at the emergency vet, Pokimane ended her stream to attend. She said she realized what had happened when the veterinarian entered the room.
“When the doctor came in, I could just tell by the look on their face,” she told viewers.
Pokimane later addressed questions about why the balcony hadn’t been cat-proofed, explaining that she had taken additional precautions at her previous homes.
“I’ve cat-proofed every balcony I’ve ever had, with bird spikes & plastic covers,” she wrote. “This is the only building that didn’t allow me to.”
She added that the balcony door had a bug screen, but it had been left open when the cleaners opened the door.
Pokimane said that she wasn’t blaming anyone for what happened.
“As heartbroken as I am, I don’t want to blame anyone. This was a heartbreaking, freak accident. I’m very sad and just trying to clarify things.”
