Pokemon has announced a collaboration with guitar manufacturer Fender to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary, introducing two electric guitars inspired by the original games.
The partnership comes as Pokemon celebrates 30 years since Pokemon Red and Green launched in Japan in 1996, introducing players to the franchise that would eventually become one of the biggest in gaming.
Both instruments combine classic Fender designs with retro Pokemon artwork, including a special feature that allows players to recreate the sounds of the original Game Boy era.
Pokemon and Fender reveal Red and Green guitars
Announced on October 30, the collaboration includes two Japanese-made electric guitars inspired by the original Pokemon games.
The Pokemon Red Version Stratocaster features a red design, while the Pokemon Green Version Telecaster comes in green. Both are made by Fender in Japan.
Both instruments incorporate pixel art inspired by the original games, combining Pokemon imagery with Fender’s recognizable guitar designs.
One of the standout features is a special toggle that switches the guitars to 8-bit audio, allowing musicians to produce sounds inspired by the original Game Boy.
Each guitar also includes a custom neck plate commemorating Pokemon’s 30th anniversary and the collaboration with Fender.
“We’re celebrating 30 years of Pokémon with a special collaboration with Fender!” the official Pokemon account announced on X.
“Stay tuned, Trainers! These two special guitars are coming soon to Pokémon Center for preorder!”
When do the Pokemon Fender guitars release?
Although the guitars have been officially revealed, fans will have to wait until 2027 to get their hands on them.
Both models will be available through the Pokemon Center, with preorders expected to open soon. However, an exact preorder date has not been announced.
Pricing has also yet to be confirmed, and neither company has revealed how many guitars will be produced or whether availability will be limited.
The collaboration is part of Pokemon’s ongoing 30th anniversary celebrations, marking three decades since the original games debuted on the Game Boy in Japan on February 27, 1996.
The Fender guitars are the latest in a series of collaborations celebrating Pokemon’s 30th anniversary.
McDonald’s also recently announced a new Pokemon Happy Meal collection featuring 15 collectible toys and 15 trading cards, launching at participating US restaurants on November 10, 2026, before expanding to dozens of countries worldwide.
