Representative Ted Lieu says President Donald Trump will never get his name on two of Washington’s landmarks. The California Democrat posted it on X on Friday, November 6, 2026, and he boldly tagged the official White House X account.

The arch he means would stand 250 feet tall. It would sit at Memorial Circle, between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. The National Capital Planning Commission approved the project in an 8–4 vote on Thursday, November 5, following nearly nine hours of public testimony. Less than two hours later, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan issued a 14-day temporary restraining order blocking construction.

“Dear @WhiteHouse: trump’s name will never be on the Kennedy Center or the Reflecting Pool.
The trump arch will not be built.
And in two years, Congress and the next Administration will erase trump’s name and stench from everything he has touched.
Ozymandias”

Representative Ted Lieu Claims Everything the Trump Administration Built Will Be Forgotten

The representative’s argument is about permanence as much as policy. Monuments, in his account, last only as long as the politics behind them. Veterans and preservation groups have fought the arch for months. This week they pressed their objections at a news conference. They argue it would dominate the cemetery’s sightlines and lacks congressional approval.

“You cannot approve a design whose purpose you cannot state,” said Jimi Shaughnessy of the National Parks Conservation Association.

Lieu has also argued that Trump misread the results of the midterm elections. On November 4, 2026, he replied to a clip of the president praising the White House ballroom, a moment covered in this report:

“I’m beginning to think Trump doesn’t understand the message the American people sent to him and the GOP last night.”

When it came to the discussion about the Reflecting Pool and the Kennedy Center, Ted Lieu was confident President Trump’s name would not be on either landmark. He then promised that Congress and the next administration will erase the president’s name and stench from everything he has touched.
