Florida Governor-elect Byron Donalds shares his thoughts on the Republican Party’s midterm election loss on Fox.

In a recent interview with Lara Trump on Fox News, Florida Governor-elect Byron Donalds shared his thoughts on the Republican Party. He stated that the GOP must focus on helping people “make ends meet” and addressing their needs. He went on to name the SAVE America Act and President Donald Trump’s border security policies as measures that should have been passed earlier.
Donalds stated that frustration with the GOP’s failure to address people’s concerns contributed to the party’s losses in the midterms. He said:
“As a party, we have to be really focused on how it is for people to be able to get up every day and make ends meet. In Washington, there were some real missed opportunities. SAVE America Act, we should have got that done a long time ago. President Trump’s border security package that he’s put into place now twice in our country, should have got that through the United States Senate. I think there was a real failure there. And I think people just have a frustration.
Donalds went on to claim that voters in the country are “not tied to any party.” He stated that they vote based on the issues and warned Republicans to take this as a lesson moving forward. He further said:
“I’ve been telling a lot of my colleagues that the voters of this country are not really tied to any party. They are looking at these issues, they’re looking at their pocketbook, and they will move very quickly. And I think this was a lesson for Republicans going forward.”
“That Speaks Volumes”: Byron Donalds Talks About His Victory

Byron Donalds is among the minority Republicans to win the midterm elections, securing victory in the Florida governor’s race. Speaking to Lara Trump, he discussed his victory, stating that voters do not base their decisions on a person’s skin color. Donalds also expressed his hope that racial division in politics would come to an end. He said:
“The voters of Florida said resoundingly, ‘We don’t care about the color of your skin. We just want to make sure we have the best person leading our state into the future.’ And I think that speaks volumes not just for the people of Florida; it speaks volumes for the people of this country. And the one thing I hope that we can finally start to figure out, not just in 2026 but in the years to come, is that the racial animus and dividing people based upon racial lines that goes away and never comes back in American politics.”
