New WW2 Shooter on Steam Is the Unofficial Return of Medal of Honor

Steelblood: Allied Front is a newly announced first-person shooter on Steam that looks like a PSX-style Medal of Honor game from the 1990s. Steelblood has no release date at the time of writing, but its first gameplay trailer has turned heads, especially among fans of retro games on Steam.

Developer Lucky Wise Games has been open about the games that have influenced Steelblood, describing it as “an old-school first-person shooter set during World War 2, inspired by classics such as Medal of Honor and Half-Life.” Also, the first scene in the Steelblood: Allied Front trailer could be seen as a tribute to 2002’s Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, featuring a similarly dramatic D-Day recreation.

Steelblood Has One of Medal of Honor’s Signature Design Philosophies

The first few Medal of Honor games featured sabotage-focused missions in which a secret agent infiltrated Nazi camps and defeated enemy forces on his own. This level design was seen less as a stylistic choice and more as a strategic workaround for the PlayStation’s hardware limits, since fewer characters on screen meant smoother performance. However, it became a core element of the franchise and helped create a subgenre of sabotage-based war games. Now, Steelblood seeks to recreate the same design philosophy with a story-driven, single-player campaign about a US agent who goes behind enemy lines and eliminates their troops.

According to developer Lucky Wise Games, Steelblood will also feature large-scale WW2 battles. The first gameplay trailer also confirmed that players can use a wide range of historically accurate weapons, such as the renowned M1 Garand, MP 40, and Walther P38. The trailer also shows a few armored fighting vehicles, but it remains unclear whether players will be able to control them, as in some other classic WW2 shooters.

Another detail about Steelblood that may excite fans of historical war games is that it will feature locations inspired by real-life settings. According to the developer, the game features “a seamless story campaign that takes [players] from the Normandy landings to the deserts of North Africa and the secret weapons facilities of Norway.” Of course, fans should not expect highly detailed or realistic depictions of these locations, as Steelblood uses low-poly, PSX-style aesthetics that leave little room for complexity.

The Medal of Honor franchise turns 27 in November 2026, and its current owner, EA, has not announced any official plans to celebrate the occasion. However, players looking to recapture some gaming nostalgia could keep an eye on Steelblood: Allied Front, which may scratch that Medal of Honor itch. The game has no release date, but given how much gameplay the trailer has shown, the wait might not be too long.
