MrBeast has unveiled his largest humanitarian build to date, spending nearly $10 million to construct an entire self-sustaining village in Ghana. The massive effort aims to pull hundreds of local children out of illegal labor on cacao farms.
The settlement took eight months of physical construction following a full year of development. Named Abna Dakwa Village, the community was constructed on an empty field to provide families with housing, clean water and free education.
The project directly connects to the creators widely known broader mission with his Feastables brand, using the build to challenge multi-billion dollar confectionery corporations over their sourcing practices.
Powering a community and challenging big chocolate
In an upload his YouTube channel MrBeast walked viewers through the process of planning and constructing the village. The location features 10 free homes for relocated teachers, a medical clinic, a community marketplace and a school built for over 300 students.
To keep kids in the classroom rather than working on cacao farms, the project provides free daily meals to every student for the next five years with support from The Rockefeller Foundation.
The village also operates on an off-grid solar setup installed by Global Energy Alliance, complete with two water towers holding thousands of gallons of clean drinking water and a farm with fish tanks.
“Big chocolate will not care about rampant child labor until you guys watching this video do something about it,” he said. “Show big chocolate that you care, that you do not want little children exploited.”
The massive build was organized in partnership with the 1 Billion Followers Summit, the Varkey Foundation and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives.
As part of the summit’s 1 Billion Acts of Kindness campaign, 10 creators from around the world were selected to fly out to Ghana and help MrBeast build the village on the ground.
