For context, Primetime is a film directed by Lance Oppenheim, starring Robert Pattinson as Hansen. The movie documents Hansen’s popular Dateline NBC show, “To Catch a Predator,” which features the confrontation of child predators and holds them accountable.
After watching the movie, Hansen seemed disapproving of it. He alleged that the film’s production and distribution company, A24, did not ask for his consultation. Hansen said the film covered events that were not rooted in reality and that he was not “blown away” by it. He said:
“Well, I’ve seen the movie. Now, I grant you, I’m probably not the most objective reviewer of this movie since A24 made it without my consult or consideration, and they used my name, image, and likeness. I can tell you that most of it is pure fiction. They mix in some reality here and there. At the end of the day, I wasn’t blown away by it either way. It’s a movie, and I’ll continue to do the work I do, and people can watch this movie and make up their own minds.”

Recently, Chris Hansen reviewed the movie Primetime. He described the events in the film as “so detached from reality.” The host of To Catch a Predator said it would not bother him, since they had drifted it so far from reality. At one point, he also alleged that the film was a “hit piece” on him and the series. He also said that it is an insult to people who do the same kind of work Hansen does. Speaking to Fox News host Jesse Watters, he said:
“I had a pretty good idea of what was in it, and what was in it, in my mind, was something that was so overly dramatized, so detached from reality. As the director put it, a fever dream that almost hit me as something that was so far from reality that it wouldn’t even bother me…. In a way, it’s a hit piece on me and the series, which is weird, because all we do is expose bad human beings who try to hurt children. So in that respect, it’s an insult to the thousands of men and women who go out every day to do the same thing that I try to do…. I think it’s so far over the top that it’s hard to come to grips with what they’re trying to do here.”
