IHOP has finally brought Stuffed French Toast back to its menu after six years and loads of demands for the chain’s most-requested discontinued item.
The returning version comes with significantly more sweet cream filling than the original after customers demanded a more generous helping.
IHOP president Lawrence Kim told Nation’s Restaurant News that the chain created a new injection process to spread the filling throughout every piece without causing the toast to “explode.”
“The essence of Stuffed French Toast is the same, but it’s bigger and better,” Kim said, revealing one customer request stood out during development: “I want more cream filling.”
IHOP Stuffed French Toast returns with two flavors
Stuffed French Toast officially returned to participating IHOP restaurants nationwide on September 14 and now has its own dedicated menu category.
Customers can choose between Strawberry Vanilla and Blueberry Vanilla. Each order includes two French toast triangles filled with sweet cream before being dipped and cooked in vanilla-cinnamon batter.
The Strawberry Vanilla version is topped with glazed strawberries and vanilla sauce, while its blueberry counterpart swaps the strawberries for a blueberry topping.
Customers can order the toast by itself, as part of a combo or with a larger breakfast.
FlickrThe dish first launched as a limited-time offering in 2003 before earning a permanent spot on the menu. It was removed in 2020 as IHOP reduced its offerings and later introduced alternatives such as Thick ‘N Fluffy French Toast.
However, customers continued asking for its return. IHOP now says Stuffed French Toast became its most-requested discontinued item on social media.
“Every time I’m in a restaurant, I ask our guests and our cooks, ‘What’s the one product you would want to bring back?’” Kim said. “Resoundingly, the answer is always Stuffed French Toast.”
The comeback follows several promotions from the breakfast chain, including the return of its all-you-can-eat pancake deal and its annual free pancake giveaway for National Pancake Day.
Other chains have taken much different routes when it comes to bringing back only menu items. Earlier this month, Taco Bell announced that it would let the winners of a golf tournament help bring back a discontinued product.
