Elon Musk says that a “clean sweep” by the Democrats in 2028 could result in a “one-party rule” in the U.S.A.

Elon Musk used a post on X on October 29, 2026, to warn that a Democratic clean sweep in 2028 would end competitive elections in America, and to tell his followers to vote Republican this fall. He listed three steps he said Democrats would take after winning the House, Senate, and presidency, then drew his conclusion:
“My biggest concern is that if there is a clean sweep by Democrats of the House, Senate, and Presidency in 2028, they will:
1. Make DC and Puerto Rico states to gain a strong majority in the Senate.
2. Open the borders and legalize everyone living in America illegally to cement a permanent majority.
3. Increase the size of the Supreme Court to gain an immediate majority.
This would result in America becoming a permanent one-party state and the end of democracy in any meaningful sense of the word.
All that is needed to ensure this doesn’t happen is 51 Republican senators in 2029. That is why you should vote for Republican senators this election. Other reasons are irrelevant compared to this one.”
None of the three steps he lists would require a constitutional amendment. Statehood bills for DC and Puerto Rico have passed the House in earlier Congresses but never cleared the Senate, and the Supreme Court’s nine seats are set by statute, which Congress can change.
Elon Musk Has Criticized The Democrats in the Past

Musk frames statehood for Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, citizenship for people living in the country illegally and a larger Supreme Court as a single plan rather than three arguments. He states the result as a certainty and offers no evidence that Democratic leaders have committed to it. On October 30, 2026, Firstpost noted in a report that he gave no factual basis for the claim. In September 2024, he wrote on X that the presidential race would be “the last election” if Donald Trump lost.
On November 3, the midterms take place, with Republicans defending both chambers, and the post landed in the final week before them. On October 23, 2026, The Hill reported that Musk has spent more than $442 million on Republican candidates and groups this cycle, making him the largest individual political donor in modern American history.
