Black Clover Officially Unveils New Revolutionary Wizard King

Yuki Tabata’s Black Clover officially concluded the story on May 1, 2026, with its final batch of chapters that left fans wanting more from this beloved franchise. After having been ongoing for over a decade, Tabata finally pulled the curtain on the story, but not before dropping extra content on August 4, 2026, when Perfect Grimoire, the final guidebook for the story, was officially released in Japan.

The brand-new Black Clover guidebook definitely did not disappoint. It contains numerous new bits and never-before-seen pieces of information that add to and expand the lore of this world. Most interestingly, this new guidebook revealed new information concerning the Wizard Kings before Asta. Notably, Princia Funnybunny’s section gives us brand-new information about her. In the newest release of Black Clover, it was officially confirmed that she is the first Wizard King not to hail from the Silvamillion bloodline. In a way, she is the first Wizard King before Asta to hold her title without a prominent noble family backing her up. This makes her one of the most revolutionary Wizard Kings to have ever lived. Asta has now been set up to carry the torch as the new 29th Wizard King.

Black Clover is a series that was plagued with hiatuses during its serialization. In part, this was because of Yuki Tabata’s health issues, which emerged due to the tough work schedule under Shueisha. Nevertheless, Yuki Tabata was able to wrap up Black Clover on May 1, 2026, in Jump GIGA’s Spring edition in a somewhat satisfactory manner. The last batch of the series consisted of chapters 390, 391, and 392, and finally marked the beginning of a new era. By the end of the story, a new Wizard King rises, and that’s Asta, who takes over as the 29th Wizard King, replacing Julius Novacrono.

In the final chapter, Asta became the first commoner to hold the title of Wizard King, which led many to believe he is the first truly revolutionary Wizard King. However, that is not the case, as Princia Funnybunny, a Wizard King first revealed in the Black Clover movie: Sword of the Wizard King, was confirmed to have broken the nobility to an extent first, making her a revolutionary Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom. This was all confirmed via the new Black Clover guidebook released on August 4, 2026.

In the new guidebook, Tabata revealed more information about Wizard Kings, and via Princia Funnybunny’s character sheet, we found out a ton of extra lore about her life. It was stated that Princia, the 11th Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom, who lived around 150 years ago, was actually the first Wizard King not to hail from the Silvamillion bloodline. Before Princia Funnybunny, every single Wizard King had been a descendant of Lumiel Silvamillion, the first Wizard King. The title of Wizard King was only a title of nobility accessible to their royal family. Princia changed that and became the first Wizard King to be chosen for her skills and prowess in battle, and not for her birth-given title.

Princia was able to achieve all this through her Legion magic, which allowed her to summon soldiers and become a one-woman army, proving herself as one of the greatest Wizards of all eras and one who has changed the trajectory of the Clover Kingdom forever with what she has accomplished. It must also be mentioned that, thus far, even via the guidebook, Princia Funnybunny is the only known female Wizard King, making her a standout in more ways than one. Technically, while there are 29 official Wizard Kings with Asta’s ascension, we only know the names and appearances of seven. That means that there could be other female Wizard Kings besides Princia, some even before her, but for now, she is the only one that we know of. That is, until Yuki Tabata provides more information on the subject.

How Princia Led As The First Non-Silvamillion Wizard King With Decades Before Asta

Fans often highlight Asta as the First Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom to rise to his position with no noble title. In the actual sense of it, that is technically true. Asta was born as a commoner and lived as an orphan in the Church. His mother, Richita, was no noble. He was born without a father, which confirms that Asta did not even have a drop of noble blood in him. With that being said, Princia technically rose to power with no noble family to back up her position. Technically speaking, Princia Funnybunny is a noble. However, the Funnybunny family is a fallen noble family, and in that sense, Princia technically does not have any true noble power, putting her barely above the rank of a commoner.

This is especially true as her family was completely sacked by Royals who left them completely penniless. She could definitely be considered, in a way, the first non-noble Wizard King, but of course, it all depends on interpretation. In either case, it only goes to add to how revolutionary she was in the Clover Kingdom.

Princia’s Tragic Fate And How Asta’s Ascension To Wizard King Rectifies The Position

Princia’s first reveal was through the canon movie, Sword of the Wizard King, which was released in 2023. The movie was a hit as it showcased many of the Wizard Kings reincarnated through Conard’s Imperial Sword “Elsdocia”. Princia was definitely a highlight as we went on to learn about her tragic fate. Even though she achieved a lot and went on to become the 11th Wizard King through her power alone, we also learned that she died at only the age of 22. After becoming Wizard King, she was able to almost single-handedly defeat the Diamond Kingdom, and because of her strength and usefulness on the battlefield, the truth about her family’s kidnapping and death was hidden away from her. Consumed by rage after learning of what happened, her powers were sealed away, and she was forcibly taken down from the Wizard King position and imprisoned.

While imprisoned, her village was attacked by bandits, and even without her magic, she stood up and defended the people, sacrificing her own life to achieve that. Princia’s life was definitely filled with tragedy. Even though she was able to become Wizard King, she was not truly able to rule over the Clover Kingdom and bring forth prosperity. This is where Asta comes in as the second most revolutionary Wizard King to rectify what Princia has left behind. Asta has become the new official Wizard King with no noble background to hold the position. Asta, just like Princia, has a fierce sense of justice that will reflect in his righteous ruling over the years. While Princia’s life ended in tragedy, Asta is fully supported by his friends, and he is likely to keep his position in hand for decades to come.

Asta also didn’t take up the position of Wizard King without addressing the system. We know for a fact that he is changing the system as a whole and, in turn, changing the Kingdom as we know it. Previously, while the position of Magic Knights was mostly reserved just for Nobles, it has now changed, and all are encouraged to join to rise with their own might. We hope to see more of Asta’s achievements through extra Black Clover content if Yuki Tabata ever wishes to return after the final chapter.

Black Clover is available to read on MangaPlus and Viz Media.
