The Mystic Spearhand is a highly-aggressive melee/caster hybrid class that’s all about seizing the initiative, and like every other class, this one received some cool new tricks in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, including duospear-specific Special Skills and a couple of abilities to spice the Spearhand’s playstyle up a bit.
The following DD2: Dark Arisen guide is a Mystic Spearhand build that’s optimized for beating the game (including the DLC) on Hard Mode. We’ll be going over this class’ best gear options, playstyles, and other things that’ll help keep you alive when playing as a Mystic Spearhand.
Best Mystic Spearhand Skills in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen

|
Wild Furie |

Dragoun’s Foin is your chase/gap-close ability that works very well against flying targets and large enemies. It deals decent damage to smaller foes as well, so use this skill liberally.
Skiedragoun’s Feste works great as both a damage dealer and an evasion skill. Use this in tandem with Hindringe Mirke to deal tons of area damage against enemies that are grouped up.
Magike Speregonne and Wild Furie are your heavy hitters. The former is fantastic against large and slow enemies, while the latter is better against small targets. Both of these will chew through your stamina like crazy, though, which is why we take Ravinour’s Hond.
Hindringe Mirke can be obtained by visiting the Mystic Spearhand’s Obelisk of Benediction after you slay the Fallen Dragon during the Reunion quest. If you don’t have this yet, use any other ability you prefer. I recommend Seching Storm, Devout Offringe, or Mirour Shelde since you can more easily tie them into your regular combos and combat loop.
How to Play Mystic Spearhand
This DD2 Vocation focuses heavily on offense. Your only form of reactive defense is Skiedragoun’s Feste, which itself is also an offensive skill. Before you even think about going ham on something, you need to be very mindful about how to use Skiedragoun’s Feste and Forbeding Bolt, Mystic Spearhand’s signature ability that can significantly slow down a target’s movement.
When fighting groups of small enemies, you can get away with just using Forbeding Bolt and Magike Cut (heavy attack). Successfully hitting something with Forbeding Bolt opens them up to a finisher from Magike Cut (most of the time, at least). This combo can quickly get rid of annoying targets like wolves and Ghouls in Norgan, and it’s quite decent against Beorcans and Stragglers as well. If you need to lay down the pain, use Forbeding Bolt with Wild Furie instead.
You can get Wild Furie in DD2 by beating a corrupted drake together with Sigurd in Dragonsbreath Tower, southwest of Bakbattahl.
Fighting Large Monsters
The Mystic Spearhand’s moveset fully opens up when you’re fighting large enemies:
- You can use Dragoun’s Foin to hit hard-to-reach weakspots
- Skiedragoun’s Feste can easily get you on top of your target without having to do any climbing
- Magike Speregonne deals tons of damage if you hit weakspots with it
- Wild Furie can perfectly exploit moments of vulnerability (i.e. when the monster is knocked down or otherwise stationary)
- Hindringe Mirke is easier to hit and synergizes perfectly with Skiedragoun’s Feste
- Ravinous Hond lets you use all of these skills without exhausting yourself
If Magik Speregonne isn’t quite to your liking, consider using Seching Storm or Mirour Shelde instead.
Equipment and Special Skills
Norgan weapons and armor in DD2 come with Special Skills that augment your character with perks or skill upgrades. For the Mystic Spearhand, I’ve found that Strike skills (Forceful Strike, Blighted Strike, etc) are pretty effective on the duospear considering its attack speed (especially with Winding Cut), so you can’t really go wrong with picking any of them. Knockout Strike has been particularly handy in my experience — it doesn’t trigger much, but when it does, it always ends up helping out.
As for armor skills, you can pick any defensive or quality of life effect you prefer. I personally enjoy using Survival Instict because it further mitigates Loss Gauge cumulation when you take damage. Everything hurts in Norgan (especially on Hard Mode), so having effects that prevent you from losing your max health is a great thing to have.
Rings
Two Rings of Vehemence will greatly increase your ability to knock enemies down with your attacks. This is a bit less valuable for the Mystic Spearhand since you can perform finishers on small enemies just by freezing them with Forbeding Bolt, though Rings of Vehemence will still do wonders when fighting larger monsters.
Alternatively, use a Ring of Triumph in one of your slots instead (you can get one by giving Seeker Tokens to the Vermund Vocation Guild). This will boost your maximum health and stamina by 100, and Carry Weight by 5. The bonus HP and stamina will let you keep fighting for longer, and the additional Carry Weight can help you keep your load light, preventing you from slowing down or suffering from any stamina penalties.
Augments
|
Augment |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Thew |
Increases Carry Weight |
|
Endurance |
Increases max Stamina |
|
Mettle |
Increases Physical defense |
|
Dominance |
Increases Knockdown Power |
|
Subtlety |
Decreases the odds of you getting targeted by enemies |
|
Constancy |
Increases your Knockdown Resistance |
Defensive and utility-based Augments are far more valuable than offensive ones, and in the Mystic Spearhands case, you’ll definitely want to have Endurance to increase your maximum Stamina pool. This will let you use Wild Furie for longer before you tire yourself out. Ravinous Hond may help keep you topped off, but Endurance will let you wail on your enemies for longer.
The rest are pretty self-explanatory. Just keep your equipment load light, and maybe equip a Ring of Disfavor on one of your Pawns to make the most out of Subtlety.
