Apple reveals HomeView smart home display with facial recognition and major Siri upgrade

Apple has officially unveiled HomeView, a new smart home display that combines entertainment, home security, and an upgraded version of Siri into one device.

Announced on October 13, HomeView is designed to serve as a central hub for the household, allowing users to control smart home devices, make FaceTime calls, and access their personal information.

The device also uses Siri AI, Apple’s revamped voice assistant, alongside facial recognition that automatically personalizes the experience for different members of the household.

Apple HomeView is available to pre-order beginning October 13, with general availability starting November 13.

Apple HomeView features facial recognition and upgraded Siri AI

HomeView is designed to recognize up to six different people, automatically adjusting its interface and available content based on who is using it.

Each person can access their own Home Screen, complete with personalized apps, widgets, and information from services including Messages, Calendar, FaceTime, and Find My.

Apple says personal information will only appear when the device recognizes the enrolled user’s face and their paired iPhone or iPad is nearby and has recently been unlocked.

Apple’s new Siri AI can answer questions about a wide range of topics, help users discover music, and understand information displayed on the screen. When paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, it can also access relevant personal context from supported apps to provide more tailored responses.

Conversations started on HomeView can continue across other Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro.

HomeView also functions as an entertainment hub, supporting Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple TV, Apple News, and compatible third-party applications.

Its tabletop version features a built-in speaker system with Spatial Audio, while the wall-mounted model includes speakers optimized for its placement.

Users can also make FaceTime calls with Center Stage, send Messages, and access recipes with step-by-step instructions and hands-free timers.

HomeView can monitor nine security cameras at once

Beyond entertainment and communication, Apple is positioning HomeView as a central dashboard for managing smart home devices.

Users can adjust thermostats, control lighting, lock doors, and manage blinds using the touchscreen or voice commands through Siri AI.

The device’s Home Camera interface supports livestreaming up to nine security camera feeds simultaneously, allowing users to monitor multiple areas of their property.

With a compatible camera and supported iCloud+ subscription, HomeView can also recognize people, pets, packages, and vehicles, sending notifications when activity is detected.

Additional security features include smoke and carbon monoxide alarm sound detection, with alerts delivered to connected Apple devices.

HomeView supports Apple’s newly announced Home Collection of smart home accessories, developed in collaboration with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, alongside compatible Matter and Works with Apple Home products.

Apple has also introduced several customizable display faces, including a photo frame mode, an interactive Flow display, and animated Snoopy faces that respond to weather conditions, holidays, and sporting events.

The tabletop model comes in silver, starlight, rose pink, and space gray, while the wall-mounted version is available in silver and space gray.

Both versions feature a 7-inch Liquid Retina display, with automatic brightness adjustment and an interface that changes depending on how far away someone is standing.
