Abdul El-Sayed confirms that he will not be doing another campus tour with Hasan Piker after disavowing his comments about American Jews.
On September 16, 2026, Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed was answering questions from the press. At one moment, he was asked if he would campaign with former President Barack Obama. El-Sayed suggested that he had spoken to Obama before, and he seemingly looked forward to the chances in the Senate race. Then, he was asked if he would be doing another campus tour with Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, to which he confirmed he would not. He said:
“That’s a question for the President [Obama]. We’ve had some really good conversations, and he is very excited about the possibility in this race. No [I will not be doing another campus tour with Hasan Piker].”
On September 15, 2026, Abdul El-Sayed disavowed Piker’s comments about American Jews. In his televised debate against Mike Rogers, the Republican candidate did not make an appearance. After he was asked about Piker, El-Sayed shared his thoughts on the Twitch streamer’s controversial comments. He said:
“I will take every statement on its own terms. There are many, many things that he has said that I disagree with, that I have disavowed. Whether it was his ridiculous comments about 9/11 or recent comments about Jewish Americans. I just think it’s important for us to stop playing this game we’re in, you take a whole individual and pretend like they are the worst thing they’ve ever said.”
On August 20, 2026, Twitch streamer Hasan Piker went live on the platform. During the livestream, Piker discussed Jeremy Moss’ supposed refusal to endorse Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Senate race. These comments drew severe bipartisan backlash. Piker shared his opinion on the matter, stating:
“People don’t f*** with Israel any longer, and if Jews in America keep putting this idea out there that they are singularly invested in Israel, eventually someone’s gonna come around and take action…. I don’t know how people don’t recognize how dangerous this predicament is, how dangerous this is for Jews. You’re running around basically tying your entire identity to a country that inevitably will be seen as basically Jewish ISIS, and you’re saying, as Jews, this is all we care about. You’re making antisemitism worse.”
