Representative Becca Balint talks about the powers of Congress and her promise to hold the Trump administration accountable.

Representative Becca Balint says the Democratic majority will not soften its scrutiny of the Trump administration. The X post went up on Saturday, November 7, 2026, four days after Democrats won control of both chambers. Balint and her fellow Democrats, she wrote, will hold the administration responsible for its actions. Congress, in her view, holds a duty to investigate the executive branch, not merely a power.
“Congress has not just the Constitutional power of oversight, but the sacred responsibility to carry it out.
“The American people made themselves heard last Tuesday. We will not be deterred from holding this administration accountable.”
Vermont voters sent Balint to the House in 2022, and she took office in January 2023. Balint was the first woman and the first openly LGBTQ+ person to represent the state in Congress. She joined the Oversight and Accountability Committee in 2023, the House’s main investigative panel. The representative now serves on the Judiciary Committee, where she has questioned former Attorney General Pam Bondi. She frames the power of oversight as a responsibility owed to the public, not a partisan tool.

Representative Becca Balint Vows Democratic Congress Will Exercise Oversight and Hold Trump Administration Accountable in 2027
The post ties oversight to the Constitution and treats accountability as an obligation. Representative Robert Garcia, the incoming Oversight Committee chairman, urged the Trump family to hire lawyers in his recent video. The representative promised scrutiny of the “Trump Crime Family,” corporate corruption, ICE abuses, and the Epstein files. On the other hand, Representative Sydney Kamlager-Dove made a similar promise on the day Balint posted. She replied to an Oval Office photo from Vice President JD Vance with a warning.
Democrats take the committee gavel in January 2027, when the new Congress is sworn in. Balint says she is eager to carry out that responsibility once the new majority is seated. She describes the work as oversight of the president’s activities and a mission to hold his administration accountable.
