After President Donald Trump posted a photo of a red baseball cap on Truth Social,  Senator Tammy Duckworth responded with a list of proposals. The Illinois Democrat listed seven bills she wants Democrats to pass and send to his desk.

“Let’s do it. Let’s dare him to veto:”

  • Ending the Iran war
  • Canceling $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts
  • Restoring ACA Tax Credits
  • Raising the federal minimum wage
  • Terminating tariffs and issuing refunds to consumers
  • Forcing data centers to pay for their own energy and water
  • Banning presidential and congressional stock trading

Senator Duckworth has represented Illinois in the Senate since 2017, after four years in the House. A retired Army National Guard lieutenant colonel, she holds a Purple Heart and sits on Armed Services. Democrats won both chambers in the midterms, ending Republican control of Congress.

Out of all of her proposals, the end of the Iran war is at the top of her list. Duckworth has repeatedly forced Senate votes on war powers resolutions aimed at stopping it. She also wants $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts canceled and ACA tax credits restored. Those cuts, she says, threaten coverage for millions and put hundreds of hospitals at risk.

Her list also covers a higher minimum wage and ending tariffs, with refunds for consumers. Data centers would pay for their own energy and water. Stock trading by presidents and members of Congress would end, which Senator Elizabeth Warren said should be illegal for elected officials to engage in.

President Trump told the New York Post he would become “Mr. Veto,” then probably make deals. The president is confident the new Democratic majority will eventually meet him in the middle ground to broker some deals. Ultimately, the Republican Party lost the midterm elections, and Trump blamed gas prices and, in part, Iran.
