Avery The Poke Kid’s dad breaks silence after death with plea to Pokemon Company

Christian Garcia, father of late Pokemon creator Avery The Poke Kid, has spoken publicly for the first time since his 12-year-old son’s death, thanking fans and asking The Pokemon Company to help preserve his legacy in the trading card game.

Avery died on September 18 after an almost eight-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He became known for opening Pokemon packs, collecting cards, and sharing his journey online.

The Pokemon community rallied around Avery shortly before his death, helping him reach his goal of 100,000 YouTube subscribers and earn a Silver Play Button. His family later shared footage of his final pack opening, during which he pulled a Jirachi Special Illustration Rare.

Avery’s dad asks Pokemon to honor his son

In a TikTok video posted to Avery’s account on November 6, Garcia addressed fans while visibly emotional.

“ I just want to say thank you to everyone who’s followed his journey,” he said.

Garcia also thanked people who checked on the family after Avery’s death and those who attended his memorial in person or virtually. He said their support has meant “the absolute world” to the family.

The father explained that life without Avery still does not feel real. He described his son as his best friend and said he spent nearly eight years caring for him around the clock as both his father and primary caregiver.

Garcia said the family plans to continue posting Pokemon content on Avery’s page, along with cooking videos inspired by Avery’s love of food. He said Avery had hoped to become a chef or open his own bakery or restaurant when he grew up.

He then made a direct plea to The Pokemon Company.

Garcia asked anyone connected to the company to contact the family about finding a way to immortalize Avery through the Pokemon Trading Card Game. He described Avery as the embodiment of a Pokemon Master and said he hoped there could one day be a card that allowed the family to “chase our son” while opening packs.

Garcia added that Avery left behind videos he had asked his father to edit, and the family plans to share them with the community. He ended by asking fans to continue following Avery’s story and helping carry his memory forward.
