My Hero Academia Officially Announces Deku’s New Power-Up

Over the last 8 years, the world of My Hero Academia has progressed significantly, and as our beloved Class 1-A rises to the position of Pro Heroes, all of them have received new upgrades. The same holds true for the protagonist of the series, Izuku Midoriya.

In the final war of My Hero Academia, Izuku lost the power of One For All, but that was not the end of the journey for him. He has received a new power since then in the form of hero armor, but that isn’t all. With the further growth of scientific technology, Deku is destined to get further power-ups until he reaches the very top of the hero world, becoming the greatest of all time.

My Hero Academia ended its main story with the release of Chapter 430 on August 5, 2024, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Double Issue 36-37. This chapter was later adapted into Episode 170 on December 13, 2025, and it granted Izuku Midoriya the basis for his greatest power-up of all time in the form of Hero Armor.

This hero armor was created by All Might’s friends in America, likely Melissa and Dave Shield, and it was funded by the students of Class 1-A, particularly Bakugo Katsuki, and potentially also All Might himself. The data for this armor was taken from All Might’s battle against All For One in the Final War arc, and with it, the strongest Hero Armor of all time was created.

“I wanted to give you a special gift. The data from my fight against All For One opened up room for crazy possibilities. Technology has continued to evolve alongside Quirks. Take this to heart, kid. This too is a power you’ve earned, fair and square.” — All Might gives Deku his Armor, My Hero Academia Chapter #430

This armor was utilized by Deku in My Hero Academia Chapter 430, but it was seen in action again later down the line in Chapter 431, which was released on December 4, 2024, as well as the extra one-shot chapter that focused on Eri. In this chapter, Izuku Midoriya was shown using his new hero armor once again. It was also made clear that he was rising at a rapid rate through hero rankings in Japan. In the new My Hero Academia OVA, which was released on August 2, 2026, Kohei Horikoshi showed us that Izuku Midoriya had now risen to the rank of Number 4 hero in Japan, and all this was made possible with his new hero suit.

“The Number 4 Hero, Deku, rocketed up the Hero Charts with unprecedented hype! Feeling inspired, huh? The Great Explosive Murder God Dynamite is making an impressive leap to No. 5.” — Official Hero Rank Announcement for Izuku Midoriya, My Hero Academia One-Shot

To rise to such a rank in such a short amount of time goes to show that Izuku is incredibly powerful as a pro hero right now, and that his hero armor power-up has been significant for him. Given that his power is based on scientific technology, more upgrades are practically confirmed for him in the upcoming months and years.

In My Hero Academia chapter 430, All Might made it quite clear to us that science and technology grew tremendously over the period of the last 8 years. As such, hero support equipment was no longer simply supplementary. In fact, in the modern era of heroes, Hero Equipment is incredibly important and holds as much weight as Quirks themselves. In other words, Deku’s hero armor is his strongest asset, and what’s more, this asset is going to continue to evolve in the upcoming months and years.

While Deku is currently operating at a very high level of strength already, which is evident from his Number 4 ranking on the Hero Billboard Chart of Japan, the fact is that in a decade he will have acquired even greater technology with which he will have scaled even greater heights. All Quirks have their own limit, and the vast majority don’t even experience reawakening. Some other Quirks that do experience reawakening can only be taken so far. Deku, on the other hand, can continue to grow with his Hero Armor and eventually claim the top position in Japan.

As such, with further growth in the areas of science and technology, Izuku Midoriya can go on to claim the highest possible powers and surpass even the likes of All Might, All For One, and Shigaraki Tomura in the process. This might not sit well with fans because it shifts the focus from quirks to scientific technology, but this is the Pandora’s Box that Kohei Horikoshi opened when he gave Izuku a hero armor.

Question: How does the armor that Deku received from Class A function?

Horikoshi: It tries to mimic various OFA abilities; for example, it has cable extensions that function like his ability, Black Whip. It also serves as a prototype where he can try to combine various abilities.

— Kohei Horikoshi explains Deku’s new armor, Ultra Age

Initially, the author had decided to leave Deku quirkless at the end of the journey, but he changed his mind right at the very end and gave him this new power-up to make him a Pro Hero once again. One way or another, this new power system of My Hero Academia has now integrated itself and gained just as much popularity and importance as Quirks, and it will most certainly be important moving forward.

Right now, My Hero Academia does not have any releases planned. However, on December 19, 2026, the series is hosting a Super Stage event at Jump Festa 2027. Traditionally, this stage is reserved for the biggest new release announcements for various manga series in Japan. In other words, it can be said that My Hero Academia is going to make a huge announcement pertaining to its future this December.

If the series is going to continue either in the manga form or through anime movies, then fans might get yet another opportunity to see Izuku Midoriya fight as a Pro Hero. In that sense, Deku’s end-of-series power level could be shown to us properly for the very first time. Pro Hero Deku is the Number 4 Hero of Japan, but his true level of strength remains to be seen. Interestingly enough, Kohei Horikoshi stated quite clearly that Deku’s hero armor replicates the power of One For All and also allows him to combine two different abilities together, including those of the vestiges. As such, Deku’s overall power level could be similar to what we saw in the Final War arc. If true, then he is already the strongest hero in Japan, despite only being ranked Number 4.

What’s scary is that, with further advancements in the fields of science and technology, Deku is going to grow even stronger and reach higher levels of power. It is only a matter of time before he surpasses Mirio Togata and reaches the pinnacle of strength as Japan’s greatest hero of all time.

All the chapters of My Hero Academia by Kohei Horikoshi are available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
