Senator Chris Murphy says he has been briefed on plans to restart the war with Iran after next week’s midterm elections. On his personal X account, the senator stated that some lawmakers had been briefed on the war plan. While he could not disclose details, “the plan is insane. It will not achieve objectives and will set off a new cycle of escalation.”

“Trump is reportedly planning to restart war with Iran after the election. Some of us have been briefed on the war plan. And while I cannot disclose any details, I can say this: the plan is insane. It will not achieve objectives and will set off a new cycle of escalation.”

The quote is from the original X post, recorded at a Middle East Institute event in Washington. He said the plan, reportedly short-term, would “lead to a prolongation and an escalation of this war that will be devastating for our security interests.”

In the same clip, the senator did his best to summarize his thoughts about the war plan.

“In one of these briefings we did get a chance to have a fairly detailed conversation about what the war plan would be if we restarted military operations,”

He then took on the short-duration framing directly.

“You’ve heard a preview that it would be a short-duration plan,”

The senator spoke candidly and did his best not to share any sensitive information. He believes the plan is ‘insane’ and it will only make the situation worse.

“There’s been open reporting as to what we may be planning and the civilian infrastructure we may be targeting.”

He also declined to vouch for whether the people who wrote the plan believe it can work. “They’ve been asked by the president to develop a plan; whether they believe it will work or not, I do not know,” he says. Before wrapping up, Chris Murphy wasn’t optimistic about the war plan and believes it will lead to more harm than good.
