A Florida man on supervised release after robbing banks dressed in a prosthetic mask has been accused of committing two more robberies wearing the same disguise.
David Sartin Jr., 40, had previously been jailed for a string of robberies. In 2008, he and a co-conspirator attempted a bank robbery wearing Halloween masks and disguises.
Then, in 2016, he robbed five banks in Texas, again disguised with a mask. Now, he has been arrested once again after being accused of robbing two banks in Largo and St. Petersburg, Florida.
He wore the same disguise as he did in 2016
According to the US Department of Justice, Sartin allegedly entered the banks in Largo and St. Petersburg wearing an old-man mask, complete with grey hair, a disguise similar to what he used in 2016. He demanded cash from the tellers and instructed them not to include dye packs.
A police affidavit claims that, in the first robbery, Sartin used a bicycle to approach the bank before escaping to a vehicle parked nearby. In the second robbery, surveillance footage reportedly captured a vehicle returning to his residence, where a man resembling Sartin unloaded a bicycle.
The following day, he was observed spray-painting the vehicle’s white roof black. Searches of Sartin’s home produced the bike, two suits, and a black bag similar to those used in the robbery.
Meanwhile, a search of Sartin’s owned storage unit returned an “old man” mask with grey hair, dark-framed glasses, a fake handgun, and clothing that matched what was worn during the robberies.
US Department of JusticeSartin was on supervised released for the 2016 Texas convictions at the time of both robberies.
Authorities also recovered a handwritten journal titled “God’s Best friend is a Bank Robber! Uncle Henry Cops and Robbers the world through the eyes of a Bank Robber.”
The journal, dated Jan 1, 2021, was “written by: David Sartin,” and included a drawing of someone holding a mask along with the phrase, “My face holding up Uncle Henry, looking at it, Face to Face.”
Sartin faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted on both robbery charges.
