Pierre-Louis Biojout, the developer of the short-lived zombie shooter game known as Tenderloin Night Shift, has decided to shut down his game amidst criticism from San Francisco residents. The game is no different from traditional zombie shooters, but the developer opted to use the homeless as the main enemy. On their personal X account, Biojout admitted his game design was far from what he intended and decided to take the game down altogether and issue refunds. Other than removing the game, the indie developer made a personal donation to Delancey Street’s services; however, the decision garnered reactions from several users.

“This is a reminder that not every controversial idea automatically makes for good game design.” X user @DarksideAura said.

“imagine playtesting that and nobody in the room went “hey wait a second”,” X user @lauraupcherry joked.

“Canceling the whole game over the enemy design tells you how fast a small team can lose control of the conversation now. The idea was always going to be a lightning rod, but shutting it down completely is at least owning the mistake instead of arguing with everyone online.” X user @MitchOnX wrote.

“its just a game bruh,” X user @k_azovsky replied.

“the whole genre is built on shooting things that look vaguely human. acting shocked when someone finally makes it unambiguously people is fake outrage,” X user @chloebagely stated.

“Good update. Very unfortunate mistake though,” X user @cute_n_clocky remarked.

In his post, Biojout regretted using the homeless or people struggling with addiction as enemies in Tenderloin Night Shift. The game was removed on October 16, 2026, and Biojout made a donation to Delancey Street that matches the game’s overall revenue. The donation went toward the recovery services of Delancey Street to help those in self-rehabilitation.
