Ghost of Yotei Shares Official Sales Update

Ghost of Yotei has sold approximately 5.4 million units worldwide within its first year of availability, according to a new report from an analytics firm. Ghost of Yotei originally launched on October 2, 2025, as a PS5 exclusive open-world action title and a standalone sequel to 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima.

In short, Ghost of Yotei is a tale of vengeance and purpose, with the bounty hunter Atsu’s quest to take down the Yotei Six serving as the driving force behind its story. Following the game’s launch, reviews of Ghost of Yotei stated that the game’s open-world environments and storytelling made the PS5 exclusive title a worthwhile adventure. The latest entry from Sucker Punch garnered several awards, including Console Game of the Year at the 2025 Golden Joystick Awards and Adventure Game of the Year at the 29th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards.

Ghost of Yotei Sold 5.4 Million Copies in Its First Year

According to Alinea Analytics, while Ghost of Yotei‘s estimated figure of 5.4 million units sold is still impressive, the 2025 title moved fewer copies within the same span as Ghost of Tsushima, which sold nearly 7 million copies from July 2020 to July 2021. By comparison, Ghost of Yotei closed the gap in PlayStation Studios’ bottom line, as the 5.4 million copies generated $407 million in revenue, compared to Tsushima‘s $417 million. Ergo, Sucker Punch’s 2025 title was a financial success for Sony. However, the revenue generated between the two Ghost titles may be due to the MSRPs each game had at launch. Alinea Analytics’ head of marketing, Rhys Elliott, said that Tsushima started at $59.99 and was discounted to $44.99 three months after its launch. While it still carries a $69.99 price tag, Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition has since superseded the original release on the PlayStation Store as of October 1, 2026.

Ghost of Yotei has also not been discounted nearly as often as Ghost of Tsushima, though the former reached as low as $49.69 during PlayStation’s Days of Play 2026 sale held from late May to early June. Elliott stated that, despite the lower sales figures, Yotei generated 26% more revenue per player compared to Tsushima, which aligned with PlayStation’s internal financial goals. Given that Yotei will not receive a PC port, the game remains limited in its reach compared to its predecessor. Elliott pointed out that Sony sold over 100 million PS5 units worldwide, meaning Yotei still has room to grow within the PlayStation ecosystem.

The success of Ghost of Yotei had a real-world impact on Japanese tourism following its launch, and the game may receive an additional bump in the coming weeks. Elliott stated that the November 19 launch of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6 could cause PS5 console sales to spike as people flock to stores to get one in advance. As such, the sales spike could benefit titles like Ghost of Yotei as new players add more games to their collections.

With Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition still receiving updates to patch out any bugs and issues that crop up, Sucker Punch’s open-world game still retains a dedicated audience. It remains to be seen how many more copies Yotei will sell in its second year of availability.
