A Brazilian electronics distributor is demanding answers after nearly $500,000 worth of Nvidia RTX 5090 graphics cards reportedly disappeared from an international airport.
Oderço, an electronics and IT distributor with more than 38 years of experience, claims that two pallets of Zotac RTX 5090 GPUs vanished at Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo, Brazil.
The missing shipment is valued at approximately R$2.5 million ($470,000), leaving the company searching for answers about what happened to the high-value hardware.
Distributor demands answers over missing RTX 5090 shipment
Oderço took to Instagram to publicly address the situation after reportedly failing to receive an official response about the missing graphics cards.
“In more than 38 years of history, we have never experienced a situation like this, and we will not remain silent,” the company wrote in a statement translated from Portuguese.
“Two pallets of Zotac RTX 5090 graphics cards have disappeared at Guarulhos International Airport. That’s approximately R$2.5 million worth of merchandise, at cost price, and so far we still have no answers.”
The distributor questioned how such an expensive shipment could disappear inside an international airport without any explanation.
“We are seeking clarification and want to understand what happened. How does cargo of this value disappear inside an international airport without us receiving a response about the case?”
Oderço added that it decided to make the situation public in hopes of getting answers and recovering the missing shipment.
The company has not disclosed when the GPUs arrived at the airport or provided shipment tracking information. It is also unclear whether the graphics cards were stolen or misplaced.
The exact number of missing GPUs remains unknown, although the distributor confirmed that the shipment consisted of two pallets.
With individual Zotac RTX 5090 graphics cards listed for approximately R$34,000 ($6,400) at Brazilian retailers, the missing shipment could contain dozens of GPUs. However, Oderço’s reported $470,000 valuation reflects its acquisition cost rather than the cards’ retail value.
The disappearance comes amid ongoing concerns about RTX 5090 availability, with Nvidia’s flagship graphics card becoming increasingly difficult to find at major retailers.
The GPU disappeared from several online retailers in September, fueling speculation that Nvidia had reduced production to prioritize more profitable professional AI hardware. Nvidia has denied reports that it stopped producing the RTX 5090.
High-value graphics cards have also been targeted in previous thefts and shipping scams, including incidents involving missing deliveries and RTX 5090 cards returned without their GPU cores and memory modules.
For now, Oderço is still seeking clarification about the whereabouts of its shipment, with no confirmed explanation for the disappearance.
