A video game store manager in France has gone viral for “bravely” defending his shop from attackers during a series of riots.
Starting on October 17, riots erupted across France, leaving many stores damaged or looted. However, one employee did everything he could to protect his workplace.
Videos on social media showed the manager of a Micromania branch in Nice standing his ground while surrounded by rioters. He was even seen chasing some away, before being kicked to the ground and having objects thrown at him.
The clip saw plenty of attention online, with many praising the man, named only as Pierre, for taking action. In particular, the image of him standing next to a picture of Goku has been circulating on X.
Fundraisers set up for ‘brave’ video game store manager
But despite his best efforts, images from inside the store show that there was still substantial damage, with broken shelves, games, and other merchandise littered across the ground.
Following the incident, it was revealed that Pierre had been injured and that a fundraiser had been set up.
“Following the events and demonstrations this Saturday, the manager of our Micromania Jean Medecin in Nice unfortunately suffered damage and was cowardly attacked by groups of vandals, while bravely defending his shop,” the description reads.
“Behind every store, there are passionate people who dedicate themselves daily to welcoming us, advising us and sharing with us their love of video games. Today, it’s our turn to show him that the community is here to support him through this difficult time.”
All funds raised through the page will go directly to the manager, and the creator of the fundraiser shared an update saying that he had been located.
“Video games are not just a passion, they are also a community that knows how to pull together when one of its own needs it,” the page adds.
At the time of writing, over €5,600 ($6,276) has been raised by 191 donators.
